Narita & Noto: Sessrin Opinion
Over the years, we have known that the production team in Inuyasha have always had particular preferences regarding the interpretation of the characters, but this is especially true when we get to the seiyuu’s cast. After all, as actors, they need to understand the motivations of their characters to portray their emotions.
So here we have two different times Narita Ken (Sesshomaru) and Noto Mamiko (Rin), shared their thoughts about the feelings of their characters for each other, while being interviewed.
First Narita Ken: On May 24, 2014 on a Live Meeting event in China, where he did readings of several of his characters’ lines and also answered questions about them.
While being asked to share a confession in the voice of Sesshomaru, first he thought it was a request too hard to answer, since Sesshomaru is not good at that kind of lines, and joked that Sesshomaru would end up saying “I’ll kill you”. But in the end he delivered this:
“ Rin, Jaken. I won’t talk about Jaken…Rin I will never forget you in this life. No matter what happens, please follow me alongside this Tenseiga.”
The audience roared and then the interviewer said that he really can’t say something like that without mentioning Rin, to which Narita replied:
“ りんはね、僕の心の恋人だね” “For me, Rin is (Sesshomaru’s) lover.”

Then we have Noto’s answer to a question published on an Animage Magazine from 2010
She was asked what kind of feelings she thinks Rin has for Sesshomaru, and also, how would that change when she grows up. To that she answers:
“It may be a little different from a family member’s feeling, but I think he is an irreplaceable and important person for her. When she grows up…I can’t really imagine. It would be something beautiful for her to fall in love with him. I don’t think it will change. With the current Rin.”
She uses the phrase 恋心を抱く(koigoro wo daiku), which is kinda poetic; it literally translates to Embrace the awakening of love. She thinks while Rin’s a kid, the feelings will remain as they are, but when she grows up…

There you have it, Narita san and Noto san stearing this ship’s helm for YEARS. No wonder the August live Sesshomaru-Rin Special had them trolling the audience avoiding the MOST OBVIOUS answer sought after in Yashahime.
