UsBundles: Traditional vs. Online School
Traditional schooling provides an environment for a child to grow and learn in unique ways that cannot be duplicated at home with two major benefits.
First, kids who are homeschooled are generally socially immature. At my church, there is a family that has homeschooled their children since they were in second grade. One of their children is the same age as my younger sister (15 years old), and I can see a significant difference in their social developmental levels. For example, if you accidentally step on her foot, she will stomp on your foot and say, “That’s what you did to me!” This behavior is typical of children much younger than 15 years old. Some could say that this behavior is caused by how she was raised; however, their unhomeschooled son is my age and he is a normal guy. I firmly believe that being homeschooled has deprived those children of social interaction.
Secondly, if a student is at home, they're neither motivated to complete their work nor to compete with others their own age for better scores. Having a healthy amount of competition provides the opportunity to develop work ethic and achieve more than previously believed. Also, even if the parent guiding the children has a college degree, they are not necessarily qualified to teach K-12. How could a parent who didn’t graduate from college help their children with an assignment? In my family, both of my parents graduated from college with masters degrees. However, if I need help with math at a higher level than prealgebra, I’m on my own.
