āStrait of Georgia Kaleidoscopeā
Vancouver sits on the shores of a miraculous body of water known as the Strait of Georgia. The wealth of diversity in the Strait may come as a surprise to some, but contained within are over 230 fish species, the worldās largest octopus species, and the worldās densest population of harbour seals, just to name a few of its wonders. A trip across the Georgia Strait on a BC Ferry might reveal the presence of killer, humpback, grey, or minke whales, harbour or Dallās porpoise, or even pacific white-sided dolphins. But to really grasp the beauty of the strait, one must dive below the waves.Ā

Weird Fact of the Day:Ā Mouth brooding is a reproductive strategy employed by several families of fish (and some frogs!). The animals hold fertilised eggs in their mouth and incubate them until they hatch. In some cases, the fish will also intermittently shelter the juveniles after they have hatched to protect them from danger. (Photo belongs to Jim Chambers)

Typically measuring ~88 centimeters (but with recordings found up to 104 centimeters), the venomous golden cow-nose rays migrate in groups of up to 10,000 as they make their way towards their summer feeding grounds in the Gulf of Mexico.Ā

Good by settling in well! Still nameless. As always I have to add an obligatory ray-minder that stingrays are venomous fish that grow to very large sizes and are not the ideal pet for most folks!
