Winter is Here || Jessica & Bumper
bumperific:
Bumper pauses for a brief moment as he and Jessica approached the guy holding up the “Noble” sign. Boy, did that dude look a lot like Jess. He remembered Jessica mentioning a twin before, but actually seeing him in person was a bit off-setting. Lucky for him, though, his charm immediately kicked in.
"Bumper Allen," he introduced himself, reaching past Jessica to shake Levi’s hand. "Pleasure to meet you."
"Well," he smiled, after greetings were exchanged, "Let’s head out, shall we?" He threw an arm around Jessica’s shoulders. "I don’t know about either of you, but I’m starving."
The ride over was a bit awkward for Bumper - he had let Jessica take the passenger’s seat, leaving him in the backseat. Chivalry was a bit cramped. But he didn’t let it stop him from carrying on a long conversation with Levi, mostly about their respective football teams. Bumper didn’t play, but he was heavily invested in the Washington Redskins. By the time they pulled up to the house, all of Bumper’s worries were cast aside. He was going to be charming as hell, Jessica’s parents were going to love him, Jessica would be happy, and everything would turn out great for Bumper Allen.
Levi seemed to like Bumper, and somehow that gave Jessica a feeling of relief. She shouldn't care about whether or not her stupid brother liked her boyfriend. She shouldn't, but she did. It was only natural. She'd curse at psychology, biology, chemistry, and all other sciences ending with a y later for making her the way she was.
Jessica sat in the passenger's seat with her chin propped up by her palm. She was staring out the window, zoning out while the boys talked about sports. She wasn't paying enough attention to know what sport they were even talking about. A ball of some sort was mentioned, but that didn't tell her shit. But, honestly, she didn't care. Not when her brother was involved. She just wanted to sit in the back with Bumper and ignore Levi together, but no, both the boys insisted Jessica sit up front as if riding shotgun was some sort of honor. Well, despite what twelve year olds everywhere believed, it wasn't.
When the car pulled into the long, paved driveway which led to her parents' house, Jessica nearly felt relieved again. The stupid conversation about whatever fucking sport men liked would come to a close and Jessica could get out of this car. As soon as the car stopped and she stepped out into the cold air, her stomach felt heavy. Bumper was about to meet her parents. She was about to see them again. It all seemed to be moving too fast, but before she could stop, she was in the doorway of the mansion and her mother's arms were around her. "Jessie!"
Jessica groaned internally but put on a fake smile and pulled back from the hug to kiss her mother on the cheek. "Hi mom."
"And who is this rather dashing man you've brought into our home?" her mother asked, moving to stand in front of Bumper with a polite smile on her lips.
"That's Bumper Allen, my boyfriend," Jessica quickly replied before Bumper could open his mouth.
"Ah, yes! Bumper. Hi, I'm Jessica's mother," she laughed. "Obviously. But, please, call me Susan."
