If you're writing anything involving cons, scams, heists, or morally questionable characters who are very good at lying, here are some free resources I've been using for research. Saving you the "why is this in my search history" anxiety.
1. The FBI's Famous Cases & Criminals archive (fbi.gov/history/famous-cases) has detailed breakdowns of real fraud cases, Ponzi schemes, and confidence operations. The language they use is clinical and precise, which is perfect for getting the procedural details right.
2. The FTC Consumer Sentinel Network publishes annual reports on the most common fraud tactics in the US. Great for understanding how modern scams actually work and what makes people fall for them.
3. The Smithsonian's American Art Museum has a free digital collection of forgery case studies. If your character forges documents or art, this is gold.
4. Court Listener (courtlistener.com) is a free legal database where you can read actual court transcripts from fraud trials. Want to know how a real con artist talks under oath? This is where you find out.
5. The Internet Archive's collection of old newspaper crime sections. Search for "confidence man" or "swindle" in papers from the 1920s through 1960s and you'll find incredible real stories that would feel too dramatic for fiction.
Bonus: The Psychology of Fraud section on the Association for Psychological Science website has accessible articles about why people trust, how deception works cognitively, and what makes someone a convincing liar. Essential reading if you want your con artist characters to feel psychologically real.

i'm genuinely at a loss for words as to what to say. we are on the second to last day of raising money for ammar's injection for the upcoming week, and we didn't even raise enough for the immune globulin injection last week, let alone anything else
the only reason ammar is still alive right now is because a doctor took pity on him and bought him the injection before we raised enough money. the extended delays made ammar have his first seizure.

-melts into it every single time. he's built his walls up pretty high, it's not safe to be vulnerable and "soft" in blackrock, in his shoes, anywhere really, but he can't help it. whatever you've done to him, you've made some deep crack in his fortress' walls that he can't patch back up, just perfect enough to fit you and you alone.
-he gets pretty quiet, stealing every second of this rare break to just be there with you, to feel your skin on his and the warmth that radiates off of you. it seeps into him, builds him back up from the inside out, makes him whole again.
-just be careful of his horns, he's liable to forget they're there when he ducks under your chin to get closer.

-As soon as it's clarified you're just doing it to do it, she's so endeared. She thinks its absolutely adorable, breaking out into giggles with every peck you leave on her. She won't say it, but she does really appreciate being taken care of an loved on. With all the time she spends taking care of her flowers and teammates, it's a nice reprieve from her responsibilities.
-Do expect her to return the favor and do expect her to do it after putting her lipstick on freshly. What? She just thinks it's cute! Her makeup is such a staple of her look, so what if she's a liiittle obsessed with seeing it (even if smudged and, well, maybe not all on your lips) on you just makes her feel wanted.

-He thinks its awesome. He loves anything that shows off your relationship. He can't always go on dates with you or even be around all the time, with his reputation it's already daring enough to be a friend, even if you guys keep it relatively quiet, you've still got a massive target on your head. He feels guilty for it, for all the trouble he's put you in, but he can't help but be selfish. He can't help but be selfish when you're always waiting with open arms and treating him so genuinely, purely because you like having him around, you like him.
-So, he'll start doing it back. If you risk it all just to show you love him, he'll make sure you know it's returned a thousand times over. He'll make a whole show, lifting you up or dipping you so he's got plenty of space to kiss. If you're ticklish you're done for, he'll spare you only so he can make you break out into laughter another time. You can't stay mad at him though, could you really blame him for being greedy when its your fault?

-He's a pretty private guy, he doesn't mind people knowing you're together- if only because it closes the door for some unlucky bystander to try hitting on you and he likes the jealousy it brings out in others. -So, you'll have to do it when you're alone. It's not often that Subspace takes breaks from work, but late nights and early mornings are the perfect times to catch him. He's just tired enough to not care as much about appearances, so if you really have to lay it on him and love on him then, well ... he won't complain. He's more inclined to just sit there and let you do your thing, he's more than happy to be pampered like this. Just be careful of how much you're feeding his ego, you already give him such a boost by just being at his side, don't let his head get too big.
-this is with the mask on, of course. without it, he's much quieter, more anxious. Certain spots will make him tense and flinch away, he'll allow some vulnerability around you, but there's only so much he can control. Rarely, he'll kiss you back afterwards, as much as he can at least. It's scratchy, rough, his teeth might poke you, but he tries. It's the most genuine show of affection he can offer you, he wouldn't ever let anyone else this close to a wound like this, it would be suicide to do so. He can only hope you don't twist the knife he hands you by letting you in.

-It's so cute he's such a fan. Especially if you wear any kind of lipstick, he thinks it's such a cute way of incorporating you and your relationship into his appearance. Even if you don't, he can appreciate every second of it, every little micro decision that goes into your affections. You wouldn't be laying it on him if you didn't want to, after all.
-9/10 it will turn into you guys being glued together for an hour or so. You can't just get him all mushy and then expect him not to cling onto you for a while! How else is he supposed to keep it together? He needs to use you as a support is all, that's why he has to wrap his whole body around yours- it's all very scientific. Don't even worry about it.

We don't live anymore... We're just trying to stay. Every day is more difficult than the one before it, and my little sister no longer understands why our lives have changed like this.
