As soon as Jess narrowed her eyes, Logan knew that he’d screwed up with his reaction which had been the last thing he’d wanted. Getting into everything he was feeling right now about Isobel Prescott would definitely do something to the party vibe and he’d hate to disappoint his mom like that. He offered a small smile at her words, wanting to make things better but he was finding it harder and harder to get out off his own way.
“Well, you know that I don’t…think that. Charlotte’s just hurt. Maybe it’s easier to put up a dismissive wall and pretend that it’s that simple, you know? But you know her, you know that there’s more to it than just that so don’t get too down about it yet. Early days, right? There’s plenty of time for a peaceful debate,” he said trying perhaps a little too hard to make his words seem believable. He did believe them of course. He knew how much they all loved Isobel and that didn’t just go away. Logan let out a soft sigh, touching her arm gently as he asked, “What do you want to do, Jess?”
“I want to not feel like I’m suffocating at my own mother’s event, thrown for the person I care most for because of somebody else’s presence. There is a laundry list of things to be done before any of us can have a slice of the normality cake again.” With her phone settled in the palm of her hand, she suddenly realized what first step needed to be taken.
“I don’t know if my heart could break anymore. We’ve all been so hurt.” She motioned at his injuries. “All of us in someway or another. I want us to heal.”
