Lena starts talking to Kara in the most informal/intimate level, the level only used for family and close friends. Kara is speechless because this is everything she has ever wanted: for Lena to know her fully /and/ to accept her. Surely the effort Lena must have put in to reach the near mastery of grammar and pronunciation, that she now wields with grace, and her choice of the most intimate formality level indicate that all is well. Surely, however Lena found out her secret, at the end of the day all will be well.
Then Lena switches to the next most formal level, the level for casual friends, and starts listing the litany of lies that Kara has told her over the course of their friendship. As she progresses through the list she jumps levels: the level for acquaintances, the level for colleagues/coworkers, and the level for strangers. "I trusted you. You were my best friend, but clearly you did not feel the same way." Finally she switches to the antagonistic/rude level: "You betrayed me like my brother and like Eve all while telling me that you would always be by my side." She laughs at that, sharp and a touch maniacal, and repeats the word "always" like it's the punchline of a joke. With a sneer that looks more like a grimace, she continues, " 'el mayarah' right? If you had let me stand by your side* nothing could have torn me away but your actions make it clear that, in the end, I am nothing but a Luthor to you despite your countless inane words to the contrary. Goodbye." Lena strides past Kara, head held high and holding back tears; she pauses momentarily to toss one final comment over her shoulder, "Know that while you may think of this as the end of a friendship, we were never friends."
*Side Note: the phrase 'stand by you side' that Lena uses had come to primarily be used for very close friendships but historically (and still in more formal settings) referred to marriage. So basically Lena is saying (albeit unintentionally bc none of the resources available to her mentioned or made use of the marriage meaning) that Kara should've put a ring on it (or a bracelet, I think kryptonians do bracelets)
