the #1 way police enforce anti-sodomy laws is the same way they enforce every other law: by lying. they say they saw your car in a parking lot and you were giving your partner a blow job. they went to your house to ask about a neighborhood disturbance and saw you having anal sex. it’s the same way they claim they saw the suspect throw drugs in the bushes or they swear the guy reached for his waist to pull out a gun. they lie because they can.

even if it’s not enough for a conviction (which, let’s be very frank and recognize that police lies are often very much enough evidence to convince the right jury), the police have still arrested you, which you have to disclose when getting certain jobs or applying for housing or getting government assistance, they’ve kept you away from work / home / family / your responsibilities, and they’ve humiliated you in open court. they enforce whatever laws they want, whenever they want, however they want, because they can

some time in the last decade two anarchists I knew parked by the river to talk. one was having his life falling apart. he needed a friend to vent to in a private place, and he didn't have a safe home to go back to. the cops pulled in to the parking lot. they sat there for ten minutes, debating whether it would cause more trouble to leave or not. finally a cop came up and handed them a ticket for public indecency, claiming that they'd seen the two of them having sex. the ticket was fought in court, but on no other grounds than that the state does not recognise the ability (tendency) for cops to lie, the judge upheld the fine (plus additional restrictions). so yes. it happens that easy.

Amazon is texting workers multiple times a day.

Amazon has anti-union posters in the bathrooms.

Amazon managers are using temp workers to advertise “Vote No” on unionizing, knowing they’re leveraging economic power and vulnerability.

Amazon and the city traffic management colluded to change the traffic signals so that drivers have no time to stop and talk to union organizers.

Workers begin voting Monday (2/8/21) on whether or not to unionize. This would be the first union in Amazon.

This comes days after it was revealed Amazon was stealing drivers’ tips.

For anyone who doesn’t know what’s going on in Canada right now (which, let’s be real, is probably everyone who’s not in Canada):

This week, a mass grave was discovered at a former Indian Residential School, in Kamloops, BC. The grave contained the bodies of 215 Indigenous children.

For people outside of North America, residential schools were places that Indigenous children were sent to, to have their language and culture stripped away from them. They were literally stolen from their families, and scattered across Canada, to ensure that they would be surrounded by children who didn’t speak their language. They were given Christian names and forced to speak English. They were horrendously abused, and the survivors have been traumatized.

Hundreds of children never returned. The assumption has always been that they died. This has now been confirmed.

The school in Kamloops closed in 1978. They are now trying to identify bodies to inform family members. The last residential school closed in the 1990s. There is growing demand to search all of them, but the government hasn’t responded to that, as of yet. Ottawa JUST gave in to pressure to fly the Canada flag at half mast. They weren’t even going to do that.

This is the reality if anti-Indigenous racism in Canada. The residential schools may be closed, but that hasn’t stopped the abduction of Indigenous children, let alone the hundreds of missing and murdered Indigenous women.
