Damnit, Al. I get quite a few "just a compliment" messages, and I really do appreciate them. I'm happy that you and others feel that way about my stuff. But I don't generally publish them because, while I do appreciate them, I don't rly like the vibe of publishing your own compliments if there's no other subject (either in the ask or in the response other than some variation of "thank you"). I feel it comes across a lil conceited, y'know? I dunno.

Threat of harm aside, I can publish this anyway because I do have something of substance to add: Hey everyone, this is the person that drew/animated GourdCop in the new video (they're also the one that animated that incredibly cool birthday animation for me in like 2 days somehow??)! The video would not be the same without his work, he managed to turn my shitty little notes into a reality in an incredibly short turnaround time!

holy cow jerrod, well made! this song has some really lovely instrumentation and arrangement, imo your best yet. the phrase at 3:27 - 3:38 genuinely melts my heart (soon after, the rest of me followed). the callbacks to the “The Boys Are Back in Town” melody do not go unmissed as well. hope to hear more from this saga soon, don’t know if i can wait another halloween (let alone 3 years haha)!

In the Japanese, European and Australian versions of Mario Party, the Musical Mushroom and Balloon Burst minigames play a music track called “Move to the Mambo”, which can be heard in this sound file. This track is completely absent from the North American version of the game for an unknown reason, being replaced with “Coins of the World” for Musical Mushroom and “Faster than All” for Balloon Burst; as such, any players only familiar with the North American version are likely to have never heard this track.

After realizing it sounded familiar, I think I can answer this one! The shouting sample at the start and throughout the track sounds like it specifically samples the tail-end of one of the shouts from Perez Prado’s original Mambo No. 5. After comparing them side-by-side, I’m pretty sure it’s the shout 42 seconds into this video (Sample volume has a quick fade-in to make the shout shorter and cut out the trumpet reverb. But accounting for slight difference in sample-rate, dynamics and audio quality, I am like 95% certain this specific sample was used) Presumably they left it out of the North American release due to copyright fears. Which were not unfounded, since only a year later Lou Bega sampled the song and ended up losing a 7-year court battle with Prado’s estate.

PSA: Remember to Make the Jump Into 2021

urgent reminder to my mutuals here in the americas (and elsewhere where it’s not too late) to make the jump into next year!!! this is especially important this time as 2020 is not a year you want to get stuck in!!!
