Jewelry and Metalwork

As a jeweler and metalsmith, I am constantly looking at works created by other artists. This blog contains works that inspire, are interesting or I simply just want it. Works are either found from the web or are scans from books which I have collected over the years. They will range from the antiquity, the medieval ages to contemporary works. This is not just limited to wearable objects, they could be scupltures and even paintings.

This piece is one of my favorites in the entire museum; ‘Dream Cloud’ is carved from one piece of boulder opal mined in Australia.  It’s an impressive piece, large enough to fill the palm of your hand.

Cut and polished a little bit this afternoon. The stones in the back were not up to my standard. So out they went… But this tigers eye, marra mamba, ironstone (not 100% which one it is) came out incredible. I still need to do the final wheel of polishing. I was organizing some of my pictures today and decided to put together a collage of some of my favorite pieces from 2014…There was a definite focus on animal/totem themed pieces…and I continue to search for unique stones to work with.  Stones are where the inspiration begins.  The addition of vintage stamps I keep acquiring will certainly change my work a bit….on to 2015.

Finishing up this batch of jewels. Patina bath next. I was able to squeeze in a couple of beach stone pieces that will be available soon. The pendant stone was found on my last rock hounding adventure last weekend. I’ve not really made many matching sets in the past. Just some random ones. Thought I’d make it the years resolution to do better with that in making some nice sets mixed with some semi precious gems so here is the beginning of that. All the circuits are sealed in resin so nothing makes contact with people
