A/N: this is for @bangtan-bookclub‘s fic exchange and is dedicated to the sweet @carrotgguk. hope you enjoy my gift for you meg!
Another night alone. You sigh, blowing out the steam rising from your mug of hot chocolate. Staring blankly at the Christmas film playing on the TV, the text Yoongi had sent you hours ago superimposes on the screen. The words repeat in your head, a mantra of reassurance.
The incessant whistling of the wind mocks you: a fucking blizzard, who would have thought? Certainly not you… certainly not Yoongi either. The sweet promise of ‘soon’ becomes even more improbable with each minute and hour, the harsh winds outside made sure of that.
You take a sip from your mug, trying to keep yourself awake. You shrug off the warm duvet, hoping the cold air sneaking in through your window would force your eyes open. You slap your cheeks, hoping the pain would force the fatigue out of you.
Checking the time: it’s 2 AM… You just hope he’s safe, wherever he is.
And just then, a Christmas miracle arrives on your doorstep. You had questioned their reality then, brushing it off as just another fantasy others loved to perpetuate. But, for a second you almost believe in it. You almost start to believe in the concept of such miracles when you open the door to find your boyfriend, shivering before you.
“Merry Christmas?” Yoongi greets you, unsure with a crooked grin to match.
You do not know how to react, but it seems your body acts much quicker than your mind. Your arms wrap around him, not even caring about the melted snow that seeps through your sweater.
“I was so worried,” comes out muffled from his parka and various layers of clothing. You tighten your hold around him, as if the blizzard would whisk him away to some far, unknown land—as if to feel if Yoongi really is here, with you.
“You’re acting like I just came back from my military enlistment,” Yoongi chuckles, smile straightening out. His arms wrap around you, giving you a tight squeeze as well and a kiss on the cheek.
You feel his smile on your skin—his happiness is so contagious that it tugs the corner of your lips into a small smile of your own.
“Still…” is your futile attempt at a retort as both of you somehow shuffle inside your shared apartment, tangled limbs and all.
“How did you even get here with all the snow?” You pull away from Yoongi, just enough to see his face.
He shrugs. “I guess miracles do happen.” A final kiss on your forehead as Yoongi pulls away to take off his jacket. “That, or I just got really lucky.”
Both of you laugh—miracle, Christmas magic, luck or whatever is out there… you’re just glad to have him here.
Plop. You feel Yoongi’s weight dip the couch, and the warmth of a duvet wrapping around you both: a reminder that his presence isn’t an illusion or one of those dreams. It’s odd—to look for such trivial things, but it reminds you that this is real. This is all real and this is all happening. He’s home and he’s right next to you.
It’s such a rarity to find Yoongi here, in his own home. You almost expect Santa to come crawling down your chimney. You don’t even have one.
“What do you wanna watch?” Yoongi breaks you out of your thoughts of phantom chimneys and possibly seeing him home more often. His hand finds yours with ease as the other holds the remote. “Guess we gotta use up the free trial as much as we can,” he mumbles, idly browsing through the selections of movies and TV shows on Netflix.
“You’re part of a millionaire music group, what would you need free trials for?” you tease, nudging your elbow into his side.
Yoongi falls silent for a moment-“… Wealth is a lofty concept-” and picks the first movie he sees.
Not even ten minutes in. “God, this movie is so fucking cheesy. I don’t understand why they thought this was a good plot? It doesn’t even make any sense,” you say before you can catch yourself. Apprehension takes form in a flush that travels to your cheeks. God, why don’t you just shut up and enjoy? You chastise yourself for speaking up, silently praying that Yoongi wouldn’t say anything.
“I think this undercover inspector plot is very fitting for a Christmas movie.”
His reply gives you an odd sense of relief, the tightness in your chest going away. It reminds you again why you would never let him go.
You roll your eyes to feign annoyance. “Indeed, very clever. I think this storyline is too much for my non-intellectual brain to process… My last few brain cells are struggling.”
“I agree—this storyline is far too complex for us to comprehend. Only those of great minds can truly grasp the deep message of this film… and those minds are not ours.” Yoongi continues your act. Yet another reason why you love him so much, always willing to play along with your silly antics.
“Let’s watch another movie.” He gets the remote. “Heathers?” he asks, knowing it’s your favorite.
“I think you already know the answer to that.” Your arms wrap around him again, feeling the rapid rise and fall of his chest as he laughs at your response.
The movie plays and his arms find their way around you as well. It’s like muscle memory at this point. You fit into every crevice, each little nook and cranny. The thought is cheesy, but you really did fit into each other like puzzle pieces. While jigsaws aren’t your favorite, you would solve this one again and again, if it meant being close to him like this.
You would never need another Christmas gift if every year would be spent like this: your favorite movie playing, warm and cozy as you’re snuggled next to your favorite person in the world. I guess miracles do happen. Yoongi’s words leave a smile on your face as you enjoy every little moment of your Christmas miracle.
