Trying to draw Chinese Things Again

That being said, I am 1000% continuing with danmei, so please don’t unfollow me thinking I’m going to become a Top Gun blog (I have a separate place for that). We are still about the gay Chinese men here. But I had to write my feelings out because they’ve been bothering me for a long time. The hardest identity crisis I’ve had in a long time.

I’ve been living so long, resenting the fact that I’m Chinese-American and wishing desperately that my family had never moved to the United States so that I could be with the people I identified with and with the culture I found the most joy with. Nothing American/Western interests me. My interests have been solely danmei for the longest time.

I can’t believe it took Top Gun: Maverick to make me feel like, wow! America is cool again! (I know it’s the military propaganda movie, but it also has Tom Cruise, whom I’ve realized 30 years too late is the love of my life, and a lot of Top Gun-typical homoeroticism and an amazing soundtrack score and most importantly, planes go brrrrrrr and the IMAX cinema vibrates in the most exhilarating way.)

Man, I’m so so distraught that TGM is leaving cinemas. I’m still trying to come to terms with it myself and trying to continue on with life as it was before this movie as I left it off, but ngl--TGM left me changed, and perhaps not in the way that is most fruitful to the rest of my existence. Because it was perfection, and once I’ve known perfection, it’s all downhill from here.

But yeah. I will be continuing MDZS and danmei and the beautiful Chinese things that I’ve loved and coveted for so long. But it was a beautiful summer of Maverick, and I’m heartbroken to see it leave.

Top Gun: My Tribute to ‘Maverick’

I’ve said it before that Top Gun: Maverick has owned my entire summer–and my heart and soul. Now that TGM is imminently leaving the theaters, I feel I need to join and contribute to the fandom while I can. I began this piece over two months ago as a tribute to my favorite character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, with some of my most beloved relationships of his–dear Iceman, Rooster, and Goose, who I couldn’t fit in–maybe next time (if anyone would like it)?

Thank you for an amazing summer, Mav! I hope we will see him and all of the pilots again one day. Please join me in manifesting Top Gun 3. (╯˘ -˘ )╯

It really sucks that people don’t like my smol!Wuxian drawings. I am enthusiastically a Switchxian fan (with a preference for BottomJi because of rarity and that Wangji is beautiful and deserves things done to him), but I still find little!Wei Ying very cute and I enjoy other people’s creations with him, but like--I guess I draw him like an ugly troll garden gnome creature and nobody likes it. I still haven’t actually finished the donghua (or continued from where I left off two years ago) because Sad, and I hoped things were turning around, but.....still bad, and I can’t bear to look at him.

M-Mom? Momther? Mommy?

I know the news of this came out a couple of days ago, and I was trying to put buying it out of my mind for personal reasons (ie: the last two years of horrible misery ____ has wrought upon me), buuutttt it does have a really good silhouette design and I’m foolishly feeling a bit more positive lately--and most importantly, my Lan Zhan ringdoll (complete with despondent plastic lower abdomen appendage) still needs a matching husband.

Ngl, I do have some really nice messages in my inbox that I intend to reply to when I’m able to consistently post art again (it’s going to be MDZS, I still have a two-year backlog of ideas that I feel I might skills-wise be able to pull off more adequately now, although I know I’m late). ;____; I’m pretty sure a lot of them have unfollowed me already, but unless I’m blocked, some people are going to be getting a very belated “omg thank you sooo muchhh!” eventually.

Coser小梦 portrays the Chinese mermaid called Jiaoren/鲛人. According to “In Search of the Supernatural/搜神记”, a 4th-century compilation of Chinese legends about ghosts and spirits, Jiaoren lived in the South Sea, spent their days weaving cloth, and if they cried, their tears would turn into pearls (x). I drew a MDZS version of the third wheel meme because….really….these three are perfect for it.

Jiang Cheng is my actual favorite character, but I can’t help but to love having fun at his expense sometimes ( ¬‿¬).  So here is our poor favorite Forever Alone Uncle having his good diet ruined by WangXian’s PDA. (You just know that he has the worst time at their potlucks.)
