Hey everyone. I’m just $300 short on rent, and it’s been overdue since the 10th. I’ve received several notices from my landlord, and if I can’t pay this week, I may have to leave.

Watching OG Star Trek for the first time and having a blast whenever I get to a genuinely interesting story and moral dilemma and then getting slapped in the face with 60s sexism out of nowhere, and then immediately having it followed by the OG yaoi polycule sharing some giggles side by side at the end of the episode.

My thoughts on Turnabout Intruder

ok so i'm finally finished with TOS, but i actually have many many things to say about turnabout intruder so here goes:

I actually didn't hate it as much as I thought I would, based on what I knew about it. Obviously the whole "women can't be starfleet captains" thing is weird and bad, and the words used to describe Janice ("hysterical", etc.) are obviously rooted in misogyny. However I did still enjoy this episode, and I think that with a few changes I'd probably love it.

Also janice lester transgender is real to me. A lot of her own dialogue isn't so much "I don't want to present as a woman because then I can't be captain" as much as "I have an intense hatred for my own womanhood". King we will get you your testosterone.

I do really wish that the had made janice a competent captain instead of just going "look woman crazy". Sometimes this show really just hits me over the head with the fact that it was created by men in the 60s. I know some people have the take that Janice was just crazy and women are allowed-- and I know that that whole plotline is retconned with future shows, but i just don't really fuck with it.

also no Uhura :((((

But onto things I did like: the hallway conversation between scotty and bones was peak (highkey scones is great). Also i think its funny that everyone's like "aaaah mutiny" while Spock (who has commited mutiny) is just standing there. also really liked sulu and chekov's moment on the bridge after the execution was ordered.

I do also want to highlight Sandra Smith's acting-- she was such a good Kirk. Shatner was shatner.

also i think that nimoy just took this opportunity to go ham with spirk bc why were they just holding hands. and that mind meld??? gay. also "you are closer to the captain than anyone else in this universe". ok.

but anyways i'm finished with TOS!!! thankfully not saying bye to these characters yet, and i'm moving on to the animated series now!
