Get Off My Tail [ Seunghyun & Jin ]

Seunghyun realized pretty much immediately that he’d said the wrong thing. It was certainly obvious due to Jin’s reaction. He’d embarrassed him and angered him further when honestly, he’d been a bit excited that he’d identified a race correctly. He was wrong on both accounts. “I uh…umm…I…” he stammered, tearing his eyes away from Jin’s ears and his blushing cheeks as he tried to answer the question. It was actually a hard one.

"I don’t know if I belong here," he answered, reaching up to smooth the back of his hair, which felt like it had raised up because he was so uncomfortable but it was still lying perfectly in place. "I’m new here," he admitted, stealing a cautious glance back at Jin before he frowned, his expression apologetic. "I just keep saying and doing everything wrong…I didn’t mean to offend you," he apologized before bowing to Jin.

"I came here to read up on some of the races that attend school here. I just…I don’t know anything," he admitted openly. "And I keep making enemies instead of friends due to my ignorance."

Jin’s expression had been so full of anger and frustration while he impatiently waited for Seunghyun’s response. As soon as Seunghyun started to explain himself though, Jin couldn’t help feeling a bit guilty. He knew Seunghyun hadn’t purposefully stepped on his tail and he really did seem troubled by his lack of knowledge. For someone like Jin who had spent so much time at the academy, he was so used to all the different races. He really couldn’t imagine how hard it must be for someone to just show up in a place like this and know so little.

“Nekoninnin,” Jin replied softly, pointing at himself before beckoning Seunghyun to follow him. Jin walked further into the library, knowing exactly where he was headed. He turned down one of the aisles, walked a third of the way down and then stopped. “There are a few books that list all the races you might encounter here. They’re pretty wordy though and sometimes they get confusing. You can borrow them if you want and if you have any questions you could come back and ask me,” Jin offered as he reached for the first book, standing on his tiptoes as he struggled a little to get a good grip on it.

“Or I guess I could always just give you some explanations instead…what sorts of thing to look for with each race…things like that,” Jin offered, feeling like maybe he owed Seunghyun a little more than just an armful of heavy books after being so cold to him before. “You’re a werewolf, right?” Jin questioned, although he was mostly just trying to show Seunghyun that he could be just as capable as any book at discerning races.

A Night to Remember [ SH & Jin ]

It was a walk to which he’d grown accustomed. He followed behind his unlikely guardian; a dark angel of all creatures. It felt like he could make the trek in his sleep down the long corridor that led through the Academy dungeons to a cell that he’d labeled ‘his.’ Bag in hand, the professor nodded solemnly at Jieun as he stepped past her into the cold, stone prison.

He was tense, on edge and full of dread. He hadn’t spoken a word to anyone all day and he’d long since learned that Jieun wasn’t offended by his silence. He placed his bag on the floor, keeping his back to the door so Jieun wouldn’t feel it necessary to linger until he was comfortable. 

He wouldn’t be comfortable. 

He closed his eyes, listening as the lock of the sturdy iron door latched and the scrape of the keys as Jieun hung them on the nail beside the door. The scenario repeated and repeated itself with the waxing and waning of the moon and it wasn’t getting any easier. Even though he felt like he was of a considerably less risk to those on the Academy grounds while locked in his secure cell, the transformation itself wasn’t getting any easier.

The transformation would begin and he would fight against it, despite the futility, until he completely lost to the beast and his human side disappeared until the full moon subsided. His routine with Jieun helped in the preparation and the aftermath, but Seunghyun was still just a beast when the moon was full.

Jin's curiosity had managed to get him in trouble more than a few times. Tonight wasn't likely going to be any different. He'd attempted to broach the subject of the full moon quite a few times with Seunghyun but he'd never been given any answers. In fact, most of the time Seunghyun either changed the subject or outright ignored the question completely, especially when Jin suggested that perhaps he take over for Jieun. It was no surprise that the entire situation had been stirring his curiosity and to some extent, his jealousy.

The moon phases were something Jin had never paid much attention to, although he was beginning to notice the way that Seunghyun's personality and attitude seemed to change as the full moon drew nearer. It wasn't that he didn't believe that the change was painful and difficult for Seunghyun, Jin just couldn't comprehend why he seemed to want to keep him at such a distance from anything to do with it.

Even if he refused to admit them, Jin's feelings for Seunghyun were quite strong and he wanted to be someone that Seunghyun needed, someone that he could rely on. Even if Seunghyun didn't feel the same way, Jin wanted to at least be able to be there for him and help him, but Seunghyun just continued to keep him at a distance.

Despite the fact he had agreed not to interfere, Jin watched from just out of sight as Jieun and Seunghyun made their way to the entrance of the Academy dungeons. He didn't want to risk being caught by either of them. When he saw Jieun exit the door leading to the long corridor, that was when Jin slipped out of his hiding place and retraced her steps.

He'd never had a reason to be down there before and the whole place made him feel on edge. His tail was tucked down and his ears pressed back as he quietly made his way closer and closer to the cells. He listened carefully as he finally approached the cells, easily hearing the slightest sounds coming from one of them.

Jin knew he wasn't supposed to be there. If Seunghyun found out, no, when Seunghyun found out he was going to be livid, but still, Jin's curiosity was driving him mad. Wanting to make sure it really was Seunghyun inside, Jin's slender fingers reached for the small window near the top of the door, but he hesitated. Opening the small metal door that covered the window meant Seunghyun would instantly know he was there. He couldn't risk it. Peeking down, Jin noticed a rather large gap between the door and the ground below it.

Carefully and quietly Jin got down on his hands and knees, pressing his cheek close to the floor as he tried to peek underneath. He held his breath, knowing that if he made a single sound he'd be caught, never once thinking of any other possible way that Seunghyun would realize he'd defied his wishes and come to see him.

Seunghyun grinned widely before forcing the corners of his mouth back down into a solemn expression. He hadn’t ever met a sarcastic librarian before, but he hadn’t met a tailed librarian either. The more time he spent at this Academy the more interesting his life became. He’d certainly found an interesting person this afternoon.

The professor was tempted to bend down and help Jin collect the books that had fallen, but he looked so paranoid about being trampled or perhaps having his tail molested, that Seunghyun instead took a step away from him to hopefully ease some of his tension. He smirked slightly when Jin asked him what he’d come for, suppressing a smile yet again when Jin insisted he vacate the aisle first.

He was certainly feisty and Seunghyun was happy to play along with him for the time being. He turned and obediently headed forward first, glancing over his shoulder to eye the shorter man. “I came here for books, of course,” Seunghyun answered smoothly. Once they were out of the aisle and in a better lit area, Seunghyun looked back at Jin again and gasped. His eyes widened as he tried not to stare, but couldn’t.

He had cat ears too. Silky black cat ears hidden in his glossy black hair.

He’d met many people since he’d chosen this lifestyle; a life among other supernatural creatures like himself. However, many of them he had no idea ‘what’ they were to look at them. Jin had enhancements that you just couldn’t hide!

"Are you one of those Nekos?!" Seunghyun asked in a bit more of an excited tone than he would’ve liked, but he was intensely curious.

Jin sighed when Seunghyun revealed that he had actually come looking for some books. He’d really been hoping he could just order him out of the library if he didn’t have a decent reason for being there. Jin set his armful books down on the bookcart that was off to the side in the aisle. He turned back to Seunghyun, about to ask him which books exactly he was searching for but he felt a bit uneasy when he realized that Seunghyun was just staring at him.

Jin took a cautious step back, eyeing Seunghyun as though he was trying to figure out what exactly he was doing, or thinking about doing. Jin’s jaw completely dropped when Seunghyun so excitedly asked if he was a neko. Jin’s cheeks flushed brightly even though his lips were set in a deep scowl. First his tail, now his ears, Jin found himself growing extremely self conscious around Seunghyun. It really didn’t help that Seunghyun would just not stop staring at him either.

“Do you even belong at this school or did you just wander in here?” Jin questioned, wondering if some crazy pervert with a neko fetish had just made his way in off the street and somehow managed to find him.

When Jin arrived at the library that morning and pulled the chair back from the desk to sit down, he found a lovely navy blue velvet box with a golden latch on the seat of his chair. Usually containing an expensive piece of jewelry of some sort, velvet boxes of this size were an exciting gift to receive…but who would’ve left him something like this? Even the folded note under the box read ‘Jin’ on the outside. As he moved the box and letter so he could sit down, the palm-sized vessel jingled ever so faintly, adding more mystery to the scenario. Inside the paper was artistically scrawled writing. Jin-ssi, I know we got off on the wrong foot…literally. Sorry again for stepping on your tail. I wanted to give you a peace offering and saw this and thought you might like it. - Seunghyun Inside the box was the following object.

Jin sipped at his coffee as he entered the library that morning, assuming today was going to be just like every other day. He approached his desk and set his coffee down, immediately spotting the small velvet box the minute he pulled his chair out to sit down. Jin looked up at first and then back over his shoulder and then toward the entrance. “Hello?” he called out, but no one replied. He listened carefully but still, he wasn’t able to hear anyone else in the library.

Jin lifted the box up, surprised by how light it was. He gave it a slight shake, eyebrows furrowing when it jingled. Even if he hadn’t ever received a fancy present like this before, Jin still knew what kinds of things came in small velvet boxes. He placed the letter and the box on the desk as he sat down, before finally opening the letter to read it. If it hadn’t been addressed to him, Jin probably would have assumed that maybe it was supposed to be for someone else.

The first thing Jin did was look at who sent it, and he felt his heart give a gentle flutter. Sure things had been a bit tense between them before, but after reading through the rest of the letter and seeing that Seunghyun was trying to make amends, he couldn’t help feeling a little flustered. It was such a sweet gesture. Whatever it turned out to be he’d definitely have to wear it and then properly thank Seunghyun for being so kind and thoughtful.

He felt nervous as he started to open the box, already smiling a little from anticipation. A moment later Jin was staring down at the open box, smile gone and replaced with a look of disbelief. Jin gripped the small toy in his hand so tightly that if it was anything other than cloth it might actually have broke. He got up so quickly his chair toppled backwards before he stormed out of the library and made his way back across campus toward their dorm, grabbing something outside along the way.

He got to Seunghyun’s door, continually slamming his fist against it until Jin heard the lock turn. The small catnip mouse whacked Seunghyun in the forehead the moment the door was opened. “You think this is funny?” he growled before pushing Seunghyun aside a little and tossing a small stick he’d picked up outside just a few feet inside his room. “Then go fetch,” he ordered, meeting Seunghyun’s eyes challengingly before Jin turned and started to march his way back down the hallway to get back to the library.

Seunghyun couldn’t keep his eyes from flicking up to Jin’s ears, watching them with fascination as they moved upright on his head. They trailed down his face to his plump lips as he spoke. Seunghyun was surprised that Jin was opening up to him; surprised and pleased, but he couldn’t help worrying that Jin sounded quite lonely.

The werewolf’s expression showed his concern when Jin admitted it was common for unusual things such as these to happen around the academy. He was about to tell Jin about the puzzles he’d encountered until Jin suddenly offered to tell him about some of the other strange events.

He hung on Jin’s every word as he told him about the last time a door had opened on the Academy grounds. Many students and staff had experienced multiple hallucinations; memories of sorts, past lives of those who had founded Insolitus or sacrificed in one way or another to see it succeed. But that wasn’t even the strangest part. Paper dolls and red shoes and a lost child singing in the night…Seunghyun was thoroughly spooked by the end of Jin’s tales, which was apparent by the size of his wide eyes and the way his body seemed tensed and on edge.

Jin delighted in telling Seunghyun of all the events that had happened at the school, drawing the stories out and trying to make it all as suspensful and creepy as possible. He could tell that Seunghyun was growing more and more on edge the longer he spoke, and for some reason Jin was actually enjoying it a little. Seunghyun seemed like such a proper, sophisticated man so it was a little nice to see him being a bit uncertain.

They continued walking, looking for anything out of the ordinary but still, everything looked just as it did every other day. Or at least how Jin remembered it looking. "Have you experienced anything out of the ordinary since you've been here yet?" Jin asked, moving a step closer to Seunghyun while his tail snaked around behind the taller man and lightly tapped his back on the far left side, before innocently swinging back behind Jin.

Seunghyun reached up, his large hand slipping under his tie to rub his chest where he’d been smacked. He smiled, extremely charmed by the feisty librarian. His dark eyes lingered on Jin’s flushed cheeks before meeting his gaze. He shrugged his broad shoulders. “No, no classes right now,” he said nonchalantly. “I was just exploring a bit more. Say…have you worked here for a while?” he asked suddenly, eyebrows furrowing. Of course, Jin was the perfect person to ask about these strange events. And it gave him an excuse to enjoy his company longer.

"What do you make of all these strange puzzles? And the art show? Is that normal?” he questioned. “It seems strange…but most things around here are strange…to me at least,” he added softly.

When Seunghyun's tone seemed to take a more curious tone, Jin calmed down a little, his ears returning to their normal position while his tail gave a slight swish. He stared at Seunghyun for a moment before he gave an uncertain sigh but then chose to speak anyway. "I went to school here. Then I just...stayed around..." he explained, his arms slowly uncrossing before his hands slipped into his pockets instead.

"It's the first time I'd heard about the art show, but I've been trying to find it. So far it's not back that way," he pointed out, indicating he way he'd come before giving a shrug of his shoulders. "Unusual things do happen here quite a bit but you get used to them after awhile. I only actually heard about the puzzles. Did you see them?" he asked curiously, leaning in a little closer before his lips curled into a sly smirk. "If you wanted to help me try to find the room I could tell you about some of the other things that have happened here?" he offered innocently.

Masterpiece [ Seunghyun & Jin ]

The brooding Architecture professor descended one of the many staircases in the Academy. It’d been quite an adjustment to come to this school, but by this point he was growing accustomed to seeing things that his eyes told him not to believe. Some recent events, however, seemed to be specifically strange. Puzzles of different sorts had appeared and intrigued himself, he’d spent some time figuring them out. Seunghyun couldn’t fathom what might be happening or who had left them, but even the air felt thick with a tension, a sort of anticipation. It felt like something was going to happen…something was coming.

As he got to the bottom of the stairs and rounded the corner, the sturdy professor bumped right into someone who’d been turning from the opposite side. Having been lost in his thoughts, he hadn’t even heard or sensed anyone else approaching. He gasped, eyes widening momentarily before he realized who it was. “Jeez!” Seunghyun growled softly, annoyed that it’d been the sassy cat-librarian of all people that he’d bumped into. “I’ve never seen you out of the library,” he grumbled. He reached towards Jin, fingertips slipping inside the collar of his shirt for a brief moment before he pulled back.

"What?" he asked with feigned innocence. "I was just checking for a tag. I thought maybe I should call your owner," he teased with a wicked grin.

Jin had heard whisperings through the library about some strange events occuring lately. He hadn't noticed much himself, although that was mostly because he was either spending his time in the library or in his room. When he'd overheard the rumours of the art show it had peeked his interest. He'd seen plenty of art in the pages of books, but he'd never actually seen any in person. He'd grown extremely curious, and before he even knew it he found himself beginning to wander the familiar halls of the school.

As Jin rounded the corner someone walked right into him, causing him to stumble back a couple of steps. A quick look up and Jin's expression turned sour, especially after Seunghyun pointed out that it was rare to see him out of the library. He opened his mouth to retaliate when Seunghyun's hand was suddenly slipping inside his shirt. Jin's cheeks lit right up and he stared at Seunghyun in shock. He was left speechless, at least until Seunghyun explained himself.

Jin's hand swung forward, smacking Seunghyun angrily against the chest. "I don't have an owner," he growled, his tail fur puffing up while his ears flattened. "What are you doing around here anyway? Don't you have classes to teach?...Or something?" he added, crossing his arms over his chest defensively.

Seunghyun stepped back, eyes wide when the person in front of him actually cried out. His voice echoed in the silent library, making the situation even more alarming. He’d realized when he stepped down that what his foot had accidentally crushed was something living, but he never would have guessed the object would have been this person’s tail.

Elongated ears, fangs, strange eyes, even wings he’d seen, but this was the first tailed person he’d come across at the academy. Seunghyun grimaced, flinching when the person turned and snapped at him. He had a tail…Seunghyun didn’t know what he was…aside from gorgeous.

Even furious and glaring hatefully, the librarian was a beauty. Seunghyun tried not to stare, but he couldn’t help appreciating his appearance, even if he might be unwelcome in the library from this day forward.

It was shallow but due to Jin’s gorgeous face, slender frame and lovely pale skin, Seunghyun was apologetic instead of brazen in his defense. “I’m sorry-!” he choked out, deep voice softly echoing through the library. “I couldn’t see it…it blends in with the floor…besides…” he went on, handsome features softening into an apologetic smile. “I didn’t expect there’d be a tail to step on,” Seunghyun admitted.

"Should I rub it for you?" Seunghyun asked, in an innocent tone, but he definitely had a mischievous glint in his dark, intense eyes.

Jin eyed Seunghyun cautiously as he was apologized to. It wasn't the reaction he was expecting but Jin still kept his guard up. He hadn't anticipated such a deep voice coming from the man in front of him but somehow it made him seem a bit more sophisticated, even a bit more attractive. His eyes narrowed as Seunghyun followed his apology up with a couple cheap excuses though, his cat ears continuing to stay pressed back, practically hidden in his dark hair.

When Seunghyun asked if he could rub his tail for him, Jin felt his cheeks suddenly grow hot and his tail tucked itself behind him safely. "You didn't expect me to have a tail so now you want to touch it?" Jin whispered, slinking back a step as he bent down to gather up the books he'd dropped. The entire time he made sure to keep an eye on Seunghyun in case he made any sudden movements.

"What did you come here for? Are you looking for something?" Jin questioned, nodding for Seunghyun to start walking out of the aisle first so he could follow. There was no way he was walking in front of Seunghyun and putting his tail at risk.

The brooding architecture professor strolled into the massive Insolitus library. He glanced at the desk, frowning when he realized it was devoid of anyone that could help him. Shuddering at the thought of the Dewey decimal system and the ancient filing cabinets nearby, he opted to hunt for the missing librarian. He walked down a few aisles, looking left then right before spotting someone squatting down. He approached slowly but ended up stepping on something that felt oddly soft and lifelike.

Putting books away was essentially how Jin spent most of days. He didn’t mind it though. By this point he practically knew where everything went anyway. Although there were a few students already wandering around in the library while he worked, Jin usually ignored them unless they approached with a question. He could hear footsteps coming his way but like always, he didn’t even glance up. If they needed help they would ask, otherwise he was certain they could find whatever they needed on their own.

He leaned forward a little, his left arm holding a small stack of books while his right hand was about to slide one of those books back on the shelf when a sharp, searing pain shot through his entire body. Jin let out a pained scream, the books tumbling from his grasp as he fell forward onto his knees and then rolled to the side a little. By now his attacker had taken a step back and stopped crushing his tail which immediately swung around to his side. Jin’s expression was one of both pain and anger as he carefully rubbed the throbbing section of his tail.

“Don’t you watch where you’re walking? Or was it some kind of joke to you? Do you even need something from this aisle?!” Jin growled furiously as he finally started to get to his feet, eyeing Seunghyun as though maybe he might have done it purpose. Jin let go of his tail, but even as it gave a little swish behind him he grimaced from the subtle lingering throb that wasn’t ready to disappear so easily. Seunghyun might have been much taller and bigger than he was but that wasn’t about to cause Jin to back down easily.
