I genuinely would love to see others’ opinions about it
I’ve reading the fic ‘Laying in the Moonlight, We have forgotten, but We came from that’ by dreamingNecropolis(vaporouscadaver) on ao3 in which *spoiler* Percy mentions being given a glasgow smile at some point and I just couldn’t stop thinking about it in a regular wartime context (cause in the fic it is a theme of timeloops and the breakdown of the mind, it’s really interesting) bccc imagine your whole life you are always just a tad different from your family and that is what slowly makes you pull away and them not fully understand you to the point that you just don’t laugh together anymore bc the connection to be able to do so is so sour that it’s barely possible
And then, when you think you’ve found a place that truly will take you for who your are and technically, should understand you as you are (the ministry lifestyle), you take a leap fully into it only to be wrong and there’s nothing you can do but take it cause you’ve burned all your bridges and now there’s aWAR. And to top it all off, the guys taking over the ministry and destroying peaceful society take joy out of the little things in life (torture and misery) so they see your little redhead self going around and embarrassingly enough, manage to recognize how that ended up happening and make a show out of it.
Imagine that smile carved into your face being a reminder of the fact that you were never able to smile enough as one does with their family because you were always just a little too other
It also being one of the main experiences that define the presence of the ministry in your life, tainting what you always thought would be the place you’d belong and love for forever
