MASCOT SONA OR FURRY SONA LETS GOOOOOOO
Worked on and off on this pic since 2021 finally managed to finish it. ItÂŽs not impeccable but I'm proud of it.
Goodbye Summer, hello Fall! đđ
Thank you for all the memories! đđ
- Isabelle
(It may have gone unnoticed by some at first, but itâs definitely in there. Itâs apparently morse code of ⊠- - - ⊠that translates to an SOS signal. This is the isolated audio of it, but the placement and style of each signal in the tracks themselves are quite telling of the characters.)
Vah Ruta: SOS comes in immediately and is quite loud. Mipha is the most pacifistic of the Champions and would have been the first one to call for help. Sheâs also more a healer than a fighter and probably stood the least chance of defeating her Blight. She was likely the most terrified in their situation.
Vah Rudania: SOS also comes in immediately but is fainter than in Vah Ruta. Alongside being the least technology-inclined champion, Daruk has a strong sense of family and protection. He likely projected his fainter than the rest as he didnât want to worry the others.
Vah Naboris: The theme starts out with a jolt of piano keys, followed by the faintest SOS of the four. Urbosa is very proud and, like most Gerudo, was very battle-inclined. Combining that with her Fury means she likely would have lasted longer in her fight and not sent out the SOS immediately. My idea is that Thunderblight was too fast for her and overwhelmed her. She would have been strong enough to defeat it otherwise, and the faint SOS was her attempt to send it as she bled out.
Vah Medoh: Although coming later into the theme than the others, this SOS is most prominent and the fastest. Revali likely lasted the longest in his fight and his prideful nature meant he thought calling for help was underneath him. But he even he was overwhelmed and eventually swallowed his pride to send the message. A comment I read explained it the best. âRevaliâs call was rushed. It was frantic and panicked. It was a call only someone who knew they were going to die would makeâ

Things I find cool: The fact that Splatoonâs Voice Actresses are actually real singers
I havenât really looked into Callie and Marie yet, but I know their voices are keity.pop(Callie) and Mari Kikuma(Marie). Finding some of their non-splatoon music is pretty difficult tho.
But with Pearl and Marina, itâs actually pretty darn cool.
Pearlâs voice actress, Rina Itou, is the lead guitarist and vocalist of a rock band called âLighter190Eâ. You can find their stuff on Spotify&AppleMusic, and when you hear it, you can totally tell itâs Pearlâs voice without the Inkling Filter on.
Here, a sample of Lighter190Eâs songs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GBl_PzDgG-0
Then thereâs Marinaâs voice actress, Alice, whoâs a half-American, half-Japanese J-Pop singer, specialized on soulfull, balade-like songs. Again, you can totally hear Marina in her work, and itâs just cool to hear these vocals without the seafood-people filter on it.
Hereâs one of her more recent releases, âChoiceâ: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXdVwWLd5qs
Rina and Alice are actually pretty good friends and extremely proud of their involvement in Splatoon, to the point that on their official YouTube channels, they will often drop likes on comments that just go âPearlie~!!â or âMa~ri~na~!â
They even did an (unofficial) Splatoon-themed livestream on LINE together, where they answered questions about their opinions on their characters, sang together (without the filter!) and fangirled over the then-upcoming release of their Amiibos. Somebody uploaded recordings of said livestream onto YouTube, but sadly, nobody has subtitled them yet. I promise theyâre pretty darn cute tho. All clips from the Stream here:
