Oh, I could imagine Jiver’s face at that moment! Attempting to fly away on the machine that have been repaired and then savagely attacked by the insane bird, would be tantamount to suicide, though this idea didn’t lack stubborn courage. Jolly roaring, covered with bruise-like scorch marks, the engine wouldn’t withstand a horrific overload. It would just get burnt trying to haul aircrab’s body at low speed over mountains and dense forests towards seashore. Getting stuck alone in the mountains with no chance for rescue, and, besides, loosing the treasured aircraft was a terrifying prospect. The only thing Jiver could try to do was keeping track of the feathered thing. Perhaps, it could loose interest in that unwieldy, inedible piece of metal?

Ох, представляю себе лицо Дживера в тот момент! Пытаться улететь на машине, пережившей крушение, починку, а затем варварское нападение безумной птицы – такая идея была бы самоубийственной, хотя и не лишённой отважного упрямства. Радостно рычащий, со следами недавних подпалин, напоминающих синяки, двигатель не выдержал бы кошмарную нагрузку — он попросту сгорит, прилагая невероятные усилия, на медленной скорости перетаскивая тушу краба над горными склонами и густыми лесами, к побережью. Неприятная перспектива — надолго застрять одному в горах без шансов на спасение, да ещё, похоже, потерять дорогой сердцу летучий корабль. Дживеру оставалось только внимательно проследить за пернатой тварью. Вдруг та потеряет интерес к неудобному, несъедобному куску металла?

Однако же незваную  гостью привлекло нечто другое. Она приземлилась туда, где минуту назад Дживер  возился с двигателем, затем вгрызлась в проводку одной из больших деталей. Пронзая  когтями и зубами её сложноустроенное металлическое нутро, первобытная тварь  вырвала свою добычу из недр машины, будто кусок мяса. Раздался лязг и скрежет  — огромная птица попыталась оттолкнуться от измятой, исцарапанной крыши. Наконец,  она с оглушительным воплем устремилась ввысь, оставив после себя обрывки  проводки и разбросанные повсюду потроха деталей.

Oddly enough, the unasked guest ignored Jiver; another thing drew its attention. It landed in the place he was fiddling with the engine a moment ago, and sunk its teeth into the wiring of a big component. The primeval creature torn its prey out of the bosom of aircrab like a piece of flesh. Clanging and creaking, the giant bird tried to bounce from crumpled, scratched roof. Finally, it flew up with a scream, living behind torn wires and damaged details scattered all around.
