MAZIE HIRONO, the Senator-Elect from Hawaii, will become the first Asian-American woman in Senate. TAMMY DUCKWORTH, the Representative-Elect for Illinois, will become the first disabled female veteran elected to the House of Reps. (she lost both her legs in the Iraq War).

Capt. Sean Bercaw has thrown hundreds of messages in bottles into the ocean, and received dozens of responses. He talked to NPR’s Neal Conan about why, and the responses he’s gotten. At 13, he received a response from a woman in Grenada that read a little bit like a personals ad. And two bottles released on consecutive days both landed in France … But one took a year and a half, and the second took 10 years.
