Every time I'm on the train, or in a crowded place, and I notice I'm not wearing my mask (my memory isn't great) I can put it on, because of this post. Been in a theater and the movie's half over? putting a mask on is still useful.

Obviously, it's better to wear it all the time you're in a public space (absolutely indoors, but even outside isn't inherently safe or safer, especially if it's a crowded outdoor space), but doing it this way is absolutely better than just being like, I've already been out without a mask on, so fuck it, I'm not bothering to put one on now when you do realize it. So I'm proud of you for putting one on when you realize it.

Don't let perfection be the enemy of progress. We're human, we're gonna fuck up. That doesn't mean we should keep going down a bad or harmful path because we're already on it. The sunk cost fallacy is gonna fuck us up more, in this situation and in others. (I think the sunk cost fallacy applies, at least.)
