Sunday mornings are good for breakthroughs and realizations. It makes me feel like I’ve been to church as I acknowledge a little self truth, ponder its great meaning and free myself of the guilt associated with it. No wine, no wafer of bread but I feel relief just the same and then a little while later the guilt of not actually going to church sets in and so begins a new week.
So, this morning I’m wracked with guilt using this fancy ceramic frying pan that I desperately needed but felt horrible buying like I was a traitor to the rest of my dented, charred, no sign of teflon coating, rust laden old pots and pans that have been waiting patiently for years for a facelift. I’ve had the money and then some for the Cuisinart Pro Cooking Set many times, heck I’ve even had money for the Williams Sonoma Grand Elite Set (I’m sure that exists) but what I’ve had my heart set upon for the past year and half is the Rachael Ray® Hard Enamel Nonstick 14-pc. Cookware Set.

It’s not the best line of cookware from what I understand but look what I’ve been working with… trust me it’ll do! I like the pretty southwest colors to be honest with you and Rachel Ray is a celebrity that I can tolerate. (It’s the image of Indigo Blue or Rustic Orange pots and pans simmering away in my tuscan themed kitchen!). Regardless, the entire set costs less than $200 and actually is on sale right now for less than $150. So, why have I not purchased it yet? I come up with an excuse every time to not click “order”, but psychologically speaking it’s probably due to my Irish, Catholic upbringing where spending any amount of money on oneself is an absolutely ludicrous idea. Spending $200 or really any amt. over $50 would be met (by my whole extended family) with raised eyebrows, deemed an unusual selfish act and a sure sign that something is off kilter in your life. Such an act would warrant gossip galore and the requisite “good” explanation for months to come. I’ve been through it before and is it worth it? Absolutely not.
Thus, I feel ready to admit once and for all that I will never give my pots and pans the well deserved overhaul they need. Which involves throwing all the old ones away…. not so glamorous for my old pots and pans as I make it seem. But, no. It’s not going to happen.
I am embracing a new tactic and that is….. replacing each and every item one by one. As I come across a unique, good looking tool that seems up for the task, I’ll go ahead and get it, then relinquish it’s worn out home counterpart of its duties. The colors and styles can be varied and it will be a fun venture instead of a anxiety ridden task.

This 9″ Healthy Green Ceramic Titanium Non Stick Frying Pan by Hommate sold by Phoenix Sapphire on Amazon was the reason for this realization all of a sudden this Sunday morning and officially paves the way for new beginnings in my kitchen. Sometimes, you get more than you pay for.
This frying pan also happens to be an awesome piece of cookware. Night and day compared to what I’ve been using. Bacon and eggs were cooked evenly and I was actually able to make hashbrowns that looked like hashbrowns! The pan is a nice weight, heats up quickly and holds the heat. The non stick coating is a delight to work with and the orange color looks just like the Rachel Ray set I was envisioning. I love it and definitely need to get another one similar in a larger size.

This Hommate Tipan frying pan was approx. $25.00. So, buying a quality piece one at a time won’t break the bank and more importantly will not draw any unnecessary attention. Not that there is anything wrong with buying myself an entire new set of anything, if I wanted to. But right now its not worth the stress. My Cookware Project will be a fun venture and I’m looking forward to the end result: a brand new mish mosh of pots and pans, etc., A Cookware Set of my own making. Priceless.
