Even before I got my autism diagnosis my mom was always chill with letting me do my thing. I'm so grateful to have had her as my advocate while I was growing up.
the beautiful thing about ADHD is it can take you down many paths. within minutes you might go from checking if there's any holidays soon to discovering a national holiday to raise awareness for a little known disease and then suddenly you're spending your morning down a wikipedia rabbithole and you're rapidly experiencing the joys of learning and connecting the pieces of the universe together and entering a higher state of enlightened being. or at least having fun.
the horrible thing about ADHD is all that's nothing but a useless distraction from your REAL purpose in life: being a capitalist drone
“How gloomy and sad. If only Eeyore were here to enjoy it.”
every once in a while i learn some wild new piece of information that explains years of behavior and reminds me that i will never truly understand everything about my ridiculous adhd brain
ok what the fuck who was gonna tell me this isnt normal
what the fuck you mean to tell me that the way that i comically slide around things wasn't just me naturally shitposting
maybe the neurotypicals are just trolling us
THAT'S WHY I DO THAT?!?!?
Austism frustration :
Not being able to "connect the dots" between two similar things just bcus one thing is slightly different.
Eg. If someone asked you to go stack the shelf with cans of spaghetti. They teach you how to do it, you learn, and then you can do it.
But afterwards they ask you to go stack the shelf with cereal. But they don't teach you how to do it bcus it's "the same as the last one". And now you're standing their frozen bcus this is NOT the same as the last one. This is a completely different thing. You weren't taught about this one.
You'd think my brain would make the connection and be able to 'catch on' to do the 'similar' task, but no, it does not work that way.

allistic people are like "omg i had no idea you were autistic" meanwhile other autistics can sniff each other out a mile away

Autistic meltdowns aren't synonymous with temper tantrums, by the way.
nobody gets me like they get me

Spicy-brained friends, I would like to propose an update to the very useful ‘if you hate everyone, eat, if everyone hates you, sleep, and if you hate yourself, shower’ mantra to live by
Have you suddenly become a petty, hateful little gremlin who thinks people should face the firing squad for (checks notes) leaving teabags on the counter, breathing loudly, or daring to exist in the same space as you? Perhaps mundane and reasonable requests like ‘hey, we agreed to hang out now, let’s hang out’ make you want to scream and move to a yurt in the woods.
You. Are. Overstimulated.
People talk a lot about being overstimulated, and the physical/mental effects of it. What I haven’t seen is people talking about what it does emotionally, and it took me an embarassingly long time to link up those nitpicky, resentful emotions with the state of overstimulation/meltdown/shutdown.
These feelings do not mean that you’re a bad person! They probably aren’t how you actually feel about the people around you. They probably do mean that your nervous system is at its absolute limit and any request/demand/stimulus is Too Much and taking you into fight or flight territory.
Go lie down in a dark room for an hour, or find somewhere safe and familiar to stim for a bit. If it’s happening a lot, schedule yourself regular low-stimulation shutdown time
Signed: someone who moved in with their nearest and dearest only to have a massive crisis of faith about Suddenly Hating All of Them. I don’t hate them, it’s just overstimulating living with people. If I can spare anyone else a similar 9 months of suspecting that they may actually be a bit of a shit person, then this post is worth it!
For scientific study reasons how many bats have you removed from your house. Like the animal, not the wooden thing
One
Two
Three
Four
Five
Six or more
At least one every year
I never counted. I’m not really much of a math guy
Sat on the couch and screamed while someone else removed the bat
None (I will be surprised if anyone chooses this option)
Do reblog if you answer, I need a large test group.

I brought another thread.
At the risk of offending NTs, I will once again push for the notion that only NDs can truly gel well with other NDs however well meaning NTs can be.
one of the weird things about autism is genuinely not knowing if you are capable of doing something or not
