Final Perspective Images Julia and Natalie
Following final presentations and class feedback, we have worked to make all the daytime perspectives share a similar warm bright light. Also we have lightened up the night time images so they are not so dark and moody.
Project description for final poster
Massey University’s student run space at 20 Wallace Street provides an all-hours refuge for design students, with the aim of promoting both student safety and community engagement through sustainable means.
This space aims to utilise low comsumption living by promoting the use of public transport, space efficient vegetable gardens, a low-fuel heating system and by providing accommodation for large numbers at short notice.
By having literally stripped away the front face of the building both Massey students and the wider community are encouraged to interact, engage with, and enjoy the space throughout the day. While at night the space evolves, offering students the opportunity to stay over after late night studying, thus creating a “home away from home” right on campus.
Perspective images lightened to reflect warm lived in feel, and to match existing interior perspectives.

- Add in more details to plan/section.. - Add in real/precedent images of rocket mf heater and keyhole gardens - Bank as insulation in section - Toilets to plan - Labels like 'Herbs', 'Common room' etc into plan/section - Lighten up the sectional persp/street elevation (get the same warm light as 2 daytime persps) - Include toilet and basin as one (I can explain) - Keyhole garden/Rocket mf heater figures, eg. can feed 10 ppl.. - Fix North arrow
Bamboo -

Further thoughts for presentation:
Low tech/light touch Created a space that functions 24hrs, and evolves from day to night:
During the day it acts as both a student common room and a light and airy public cafe/garden. - Literally stripped wall back to timber framing - open, free-flow space promoting public interaction - Bus stop, encouraging the use of public transport - Student employment - Stripped away roofing to leave timber framing - open outdoor space - ventilation/airflow/sunlight - Two keyhole gardens - low space/high produce systems - Compost heap in centre, uses coffee grounds from cafe
At night the space converts into 2 separate zones, a secure enclosed bus stop and also after-hours student accommodation. - Front space is closed up with benches that fold up/roller door - now functions as safe public bus stop - Clay surfaces heated by rocket mass fuel heater which runs through seating/bedding to heat 24hrs - Couch doubles as bed, can sleep up to 16 - Natural insulation from bank - SECURE - space is swipe access
Overall: - student safety - a home away from home, particularly for design students who often stay late into the night - community engagement
