𓁞 Egyptian Astrology III 𓁛
*I recommend reading part I and II before this one
● History: The Priest Thoth
The god Thoth-Ibis had a remarkable emulation in the domain of deciphering the cosmogony of the time. It was the priest of the fourth dynasty, called Thoth, who left to posterity papyri and hieroglyphic inscriptions concerning his special astrological methods, designed to reveal to the Egyptians the benefic or malefic planets that ruled them after their birth. This priest was the first to interpret astrologically the symbol of the solar cycle revealed by the god Ibis.
His astrological method is based on the circular path that the Sun describes in the sky, from East to West, passing through the Zenith, then under the earth in the solar boat led by Isis and Anubis, in the initiatory purpose of regenerating and being reborn in the new starting day. In fact, he used the zodiacal sign that preceded the birth of an individual to obtain a deeper explanation. He especially observed that the fundamental quality of a sign is always lacking in the sign that follows it. He thus established a logical sequence of the twelve signs of the zodiac that we can translate in the form of a circle divided into four parts, each part representing a season, and each quarter of the circle thus constituted will in turn be subdivided into three equal parts representing the three zodiacal signs contained in a season.
● The Twelve Zodiac Signs
Humans have inside their head the most sophisticated chemical complex in the world that we don't even feel working. These days, we still have a lot to learn about ourselves and the Universe. Our quest is the same as that of the Egyptian priests of the time of the pyramids, and they had a lot to say about each sign of the zodiac.
Is located at the beginning of the Sun rising-zenith trajectory. The action of the Aries person starts from the «heart» and moves towards the future (stars and planets). It only takes into account the points it reaches as it reaches them. It represents the arrow that departs but never reaches the target (Parmenides' philosophy: the manifestation of the present time).
Meaning: spontaneity, ardor in action, lives entirely in the present, fear of the future. Openness to new avenues, but inability to explore them.
Egyptian legend attributes to Knum (the Aries), the potter god, the modeling of the creation of the world. Hence, its role as a procreator. It was also the symbol of Amun, god of air and fertility, with the head of a ram.
𓁞 Aries Traits: Fighting, Violent, Impulsive, Irritable, Realistic. Lack of reflection and tenacity. Enthusiastic, audacious. Authoritarian, without admitting criticism. susceptible. Pioneer, taste for dominance, ambitious, likes to initiate, lives in the present.
𓁞 Aries' strong point lies in its ability to act, to fight, which is not the case with Taurus, who remain passive, routine, calm and accumulate goods.
It is located on the sunrise-zenith path; between the heart and the intended goal (stars and planets). Unlike Aries, Taurus has a clear awareness of the end to be achieved and the possibilities that this end offers them. He goes on his way without deviating a millimeter.
Meaning: time is a friend of Taurus. It's patient. He doesn't have many ideas but the ones he does have are carried through to the end. It explores in depth what has long matured. The future does not frighten him; You have all the time to be careful. Delights in material goods.
The bull statue figured in Pharaoh Narmer's palette. It was the bull of the Stars, goddess of the Moon. For this reason, Osiris, the moon god, was often represented by a bull. Let us not forget that Venus has the nocturnal domicile in this sign and that the Moon resides there in a high degree. Many hieroglyphics are related to the phases of the Moon. Others, with the horns of the bull, which, in turn, may have an analogy with the crescent of the moon. Therefore, the ambivalence of the bull, which has a solar disk between its horns, is identified with the symbol of fertility and takes the place of a tomb divinity, which results in its relationship with the rebirths of Osiris.
𓁞 Taurus Traits: Follow your ideas through to the end, one at a time. Great endurance, great perseverance. Realism sense. Reflection ability. Delayed impulses. Potential violence. Lack of breadth of view. Jealous. Concrete sense.
𓁞 The Taurus' strong point lies in its patience, in its materialistic spirit, which is not the case with Gemini who sin by impatience and the dispersion of their forces.
The Gemini person has reached the first goal, the zenith (stars and planets) and retraces, without ceasing, the zenith-rising Sun (heart), going from the unknown to the known, from the spirit to the "heart".
Meaning: dispersion, lightness. Need to manage intermediaries and control them closely.
Among the Egyptians, the Gemini signifies the ascending and descending course of the Sun. They symbolize the state of ambivalence of the Cosmos. It is the contradiction that dwells in all men and that is not resolved by them. They imply the intervention of the beyond and the duality of the individual. One of the twins has a bull's head, the other a scorpion's, which expresses well the two aspects of the Cosmos and of man: celestial and terrestrial.
𓁞 Gemini Traits: Plays multiple instruments at the same time. Loves movement and changes. Satisfaction in driving ideas more than feelings. Tendency towards dispersion. Use irony as a means of defense. Diplomacy sense. Sense of change. Great adaptive power. I like the discussion. Intellectual curiosity. Accept life as a game. Lack of seriousness.
𓁞 The strong point of Gemini lies in brain activity, their adaptation to the surrounding world, which is not the case with Cancer that protects itself at all costs from others and closes in on itself.
It is located at the zenith and hesitates to turn back towards the setting sun. Its ascent to the zenith is not made in a straight line but in numerous zigzags. He draws his psychic strength from the reflection of the sidereal mirror.
Meaning: he spends his time feeling, sensing and resenting before deciding to “restart” his course towards the initiatory door. Listen to your heart and your senses. The Cancer person lives in an unreal world and his imagination wanders, unable to fix himself on the reality of his being that would have given him the initiatory passage, in the lower Cosmos.
In Egypt, it is the symbol of the beetle, the cycle of the Sun itself. Like the Sun, he is reborn from himself. And so, the symbol of resurrection. Paintings from this period show him holding the sun's ball between his paws. And the solar cycle of day and night. The priests called him the god Khepri, "the rising Sun". The scarab is part of the hieroglyphics and has the approximate meaning of «coming into the world in a precise way». In Tutankhamun's sarcophagus, a mummy with outstretched hawk wings features a scarab. Let us not forget that in psychostasis, the heart beetle was proof of the deceased's good morality. For this reason, this talisman was placed in the place of the dead man's heart so that, in the judgment of souls, it would be the guarantee of his good conscience.
𓁞 Cancer characteristics: sensitive, sad. He sulks easily and often. Sentimentality and romanticism in full bloom. Very unrealistic. Dreamer. Love for family and home. Sluggard and mocking. Melancholic. Lack of practical sense. Naive. Influential. Hides in the shell for fear of being hurt.
𓁞 Cancer's strong point lies in its faculty of imagining, dreaming, feeling, which is not the case with the Leo who turns to others and exposes himself to the outside world.
It lies along the entire length of the path from the rising sun (the heart) to the setting sun and is fixed once to the east and then to the west.
Meaning: of action, of courage, and his generous strength naturally leads him to dominate, to lead, to command. And equally the joy of living, the heightened pride and ambition.
For the Egyptians, lions are solar animals and they represent them, most of the time, in pairs, placed back to back, to determine East and West. It is the symbol of the two horizons, the passing of the day, yesterday and tomorrow. From West to East they were revered as the means that allowed the Sun to be reborn and, therefore, to be rejuvenated every day. They essentially represent the recovery of vigor that, following rest, the recovery of thought that creates new forces during the night to shine brighter and more agile in the morning.
𓁞 Leo Traits: A taste for command. Spectacular anger. Ambition. I want to shine. Gives confidence. Pride and vanity. It externalizes easily. Contact sense. Sensitive to flattery. Seek honor and glory. Synthetic sense of organization. Details disgust him. Likes to drive. condescension.
𓁞 Leo's strong point lies in its ability to organize, to put itself at the forefront, to guide, which is not the case of the Virgin who erases herself, minimizes herself, is self-critical.
It is located at the starting point (Sun rising), at the moment of the departure of the solar star from the infernal swamps. The sign of Virgo is the symbol of rebirth, of the initiate bearing knowledge but still trapped in the unconscious and incapable of the spiritual impulse necessary to sublimate.
Meaning: Of the useful, the necessary, the essential, the foresight, material contingencies and self-criticism. And equally capable of sacrificing himself for others without costing him. In Egypt, it is the sign of Isis, the most illustrious of the goddesses of this time. Every living being is a drop of the blood of Isis.
The Egyptians worshiped her as the supreme and universal goddess. It is the initiator who holds the secret of life, death and resurrection. The symbols of Isis are the ringed cross (Ankh) called the knot of Isis, which represents the sign of life and immortality. Legend shows this goddess looking for her dead brother and husband, Osiris, who she will resurrect with her persistence. In the pink granite sarcophagus of Ramses III, she protects the dead with her wings and resurrects them.
𓁞 Virgo Traits: Sense of realities. Likes order and useful things. Sense of the concrete, of the material. Spirit of analysis and method. Tendency to become effeminate, maniacal. Dedication. Possessive character. Need to know everything. reserve.
𓁞 The Virgo's strong point lies in her spirit of concentration, of analysis, in the sense of the essential, in her prudence, which is not the case with Libra, who suffers from the unforeseen and the inability to make a decision.
It is located between the point of the zenith (stars and planets) and the point of the setting sun, before passing through the initiatory door to the domain of darkness. Meaning: he is of dialogue and communication. Person of fair means, who does not tolerate extremism. In relation to justice, harmony, balance, he reacts with skill but sometimes he lets himself be carried away by deep feelings. The book of the dead describes very well the weighing of souls on the scales. On one of the dishes, a vase symbolizes the heart of the dead, on the other, an ostrich feather symbolizes justice and truth. The weighing ceremony is presided over by Osiris. The main symbol that can be deduced from this is that of responsibility, justice and the comparison between feelings and obligations.
𓁞 Libra Traits: Likes to move, change places. Fickle spirit, vagabond humor. Influential. Few personal ideas. Superficial spirit in relationships with others. Deep sentimentality. Sense of aesthetics and harmony. Kind, endearing character. The need to communicate, to dialogue. Horror of loneliness. conciliatory spirit.
𓁞 Libra's strong point lies in its need for communication, in its sense of harmony and fair measure, which is not the case with Scorpio who aggressively touch extremes and practice an all-or-nothing policy.
It is located on the path that goes from the zenith to the setting sun and that passes through the door of initiation, without it being completed. Scorpio is still full of revelations about himself, collected in the sidereal mirror (zenith: spiritual domain) and impatient to deepen what is related to initiation and passage through the shadows of the lower Cosmos.
Meaning: he is spiritual and instinctive ambivalence fight each other. Tormented by one of these forces, he tries to follow the other. It is simultaneously in the stars and in the infernal shadow. Its resistance is all proof. Nothing excites you more than difficult situations. In ease or in stillness, it destroys everything to rebuild something else.
In Egypt, the Scorpion gave rise to one of the oldest hieroglyphs. It was also the name given to an Egyptian king, "the Scorpion king". Note that the scepters of some pharaohs had their representation ending in the head of Isis. The goddess Selket was worshiped in his name. For the Egyptians, he possessed the symbolic ambivalence of the serpent. It is the symbol of resistance, of death in fermentation, about to give birth to life. And the sign of deep, secret dynamism and struggles. In the symbolism of the serpent it is said that the Sun daily ensures its regeneration by leaving heaven and crossing the terrestrial hells. The serpent then becomes the god of the setting sun who indicates, in the West, the gateway to the infernal depths. It penetrates the Earth on top of a barge. In the book of the dead, the Sun that travels under the Earth makes twelve initiatory passages that correspond to the twelve hours of the night. In these different passages, surrounded by numerous and dangerous serpents, the solar boat itself becomes a serpent and at the seventh hour Apophis (the serpent) intervenes, called the Dragon of Darkness, who tries to turn the solar boat, attracting with his screams the gods and allows them to attack and injure his body (it bears a striking resemblance to the modern symbolism of the scorpion stinging itself to avoid defeat, preceding the enemy in death). At the eleventh hour, the rope that pulls the solar boat becomes a serpent, and as soon as it reaches the twelfth hour, the serpent-rope becomes «1300 cubits long». Then the rebirth of the solar star takes place, which begins its ascension.
𓁞 Scorpio Traits: Easily finds weaknesses in others. Cold, insensitive, even cruel appearance. Very aggressive if provoked. Doesn't like facilities. Tendency to sudden appetites and to destroy oneself and drag others down with it. Great frankness and honesty, but quite intolerant. Indefatigable in what interests him. Jealous, spiteful. Masochistic and somewhat sadistic spirit. Great pride. Love the power in the shadow.
𓁞 Scorpio's strong point is its controlled aggressiveness, its discretion, its originality, which is not the case of the Sagittarius who externalizes and takes initiatives, who like the conventional.
It is located on the path from the zenith to the setting sun and oscillates between the two extreme points, zenith and setting sun, setting sun and zenith.
Meaning: it is energy and spiritual passion made! Your tenacity does wonders to satisfy your great need to get out of vulgarity. And of conventions and fraternal councils.
Anubis, the jackal-headed Egyptian god, who watches over the process of the dead and the living, shoots the bow and symbolizes fatal fate. And the systematic rigor of fate. Everything is laws, even in hell, even in freedom that automatically leads to a chain of irreversible reactions.
𓁞 Sagittarius Traits: Few friends but well chosen. Sectarianism. Easily irritable. Interested in others. Loves movement and large spaces. Spirit of independence. Likes to direct, organize. Great loyalty, capacity for enthusiasm. Reflect before acting, as you go to the end of your decision. Likes intrigue. Courteous and forgiving spirit. Love the easy profits.
𓁞 Sagittarius' strong point lies in the domain of spirituality and initiative, which is not the case with Capricorn, who suffers from excessive reserve and interiorization.
It is statically located at a point on the trajectory, halfway between the zenith and the setting sun.
Meaning: The Capricorn oscillates between the two tendencies of life, towards the abyss and towards the height, towards the water and towards the stars. Your ambition is the measure of your patience and your professional knowledge.
Among the Egyptians, the sign of Capricorn is often confused with Saturn, the lord planet of the sign. Capricorn is the domicile of Saturn. Being in opposition to the houses of the luminous (Sun and Moon), Saturn forces the natives to oppose the light and, therefore, the joys of existence.
𓁞 Capricorn Characteristics: Closes up in a shell made of independence and coldness. Serious, thoughtful, stubborn. Likes concrete and rational organization. Clinging to your idea. Great patience. A sense of cold and effective diplomacy. It does not externalize. It remains natural and simple. Hidden ambition.
𓁞 Capricorn's strong point is the domain of assiduous work, professional knowledge, hidden ambition, seriousness, conformism, which is not the case of the Aquarius that is open to everyone, lacks the practical spirit and is essentially anti-conformist in your actions and your thoughts.
It is situated at the point of the setting sun and ascends to the zenith, without passing the gate of initiation.
Meaning: it is the sign of fraternal benevolence that shares. He is of innovation. Your sense of duty opens you up to others.
𓁞 Aquarius Traits: Spirit of grandeur. Revolutionary ideas, sense of innovation, anti-conformism. No sense of concrete. Social ideas. Confidence in yourself and your ideals. Need to associate, collective spirit. Little influence. It doesn't show your tenderness. It easily gives you confidence.
𓁞 The strong point of the Aquarius is its spirit of innovation, of fraternity, its sense of fruitful collaboration, which is not the case with Pisces who live in mysticism, universality and the most complete plasticity.
It is located in the set of the trajectory that describes the complete circle of the superior Cosmos and the inferior Cosmos.
Meaning: the entire Cosmos impregnates and floods it. The Pisces has a richer inner life than his public life. Receive and give effortlessly. Your lack of interest in material things can sometimes harm you.
In Egypt, for the priests, Pisces were sacred. In the infernal waters, Cromis accompanied the solar boat of Re, the sun god, and opened the way to prevent it from sinking. We had to be careful with the crocodile Sobek that was the "devourer" of souls that could not justify themselves before Osiris and Anubis. On this boat, Isis and Nephthys indicated the direction with their left hand. On the right they carried the ring cross (Ankh), symbol of eternity and life.
𓁞 Pisces Characteristics: dreams, lives in an unreal world. Influential, malleable spirit. Lack of realism. Does not like responsibilities. Takes the opinion of others into consideration. Indecision, sensitivity, intuitive intelligence. High ideal, kindness that touches naivety. Fatalism.
𓁞 The strong point of Pisces is their gift to receive, to feel intuitively, their suggestibility, their disinterest, their passivity in the face of fate, which is not the case of Aries who live the present moment concretely and with combativeness, without having emotional problems or disturbing moods.
