Astronomy Picture of the Day for 10 May 2026 featured this image of Comet R3 PanSTARRS and Orion taken a few days ago by Luc Perrot from France's Reunion Island in the southern Indian Ocean. The Comet is pictured passing the star Rigel heading towards the Witch Head Nebula with Orion Nebula at the top.

This sword-like comet reached perihelion the day of the Mars-Saturn conjunction near Algenib, portending all that has unfolded since in the geo-political sphere.
