Okay- Listen up kids. Now seems like a good time to teach you all about Safe Protesting.
My mum does lots of protests, and so did my grandad, my uncle still does. All three of them are/were part of Extinction Rebellion.
My mum has taught me how to safe protest, and you should know too.
One: Shut the fuck up. Don't tell anyone except who you're going with what the plan is. Tell people where you're going, and when you expect to be back, but NOT what the plan is. When the cops talk to them, it'll help them convict you.
Two: What to wear? A covid-19 facemask, for starters. Obscures your face, and if the cops use gas it'll help there. Sunglasses, or glasses aswell, are also good, because they protect your face. If you're doing something like stopping traffic or trains, wear Hi-Vis vests.
Three: Floppy! When the cops arrest you, go limp. It makes it harder for them to pick you up, you're not resisting arrest (don't quote me on that), it makes to cops look bad, and they'll need four to five people to pick you up, and makes the cops look bad.
Four: Have protest buddies+a safe meeting place. This will help you find each other if you get seperated, and having more people around you keeps you safe.
Five: Bring. Water. You NEED to bring a water bottle. Snacks and a first-aid kit are HIGHLY recommended. A coat, aswell, for if it gets cold, and sunscreen and a sunhat. You want to avoid getting hurt by nature at a protest.
Six: Non-violent direct action is what I hope you're doing, so don't push anyone or fight the police.
This was bought to you by my Woke-as-fuck mother and me! PLEASE SPREAD.

if it's good enough for you, then it deserves to be made. don't let anyone else decide if your story is worth it or not.

I get to be more free as an adult than I ever did as a child and I think more kids need to know that. as a high schooler part of what made my depression so bad was being told over and over again that it was the most carefree time of my life. while I was trapped in an abusive home + amongst bullies at school + in a body that wasnāt right for me. opportunities to be carefree donāt end when you turn 18. you can be more you than ever as an adult and thatās such a gift. I know āit can get betterā is an annoying thing to see over and over when youāre as trapped as I was back then. and I know that if youāre still a kid you deserve to be free right this second. but it can and will get better and this is not where life stops being interesting. promise
"God never gives you more than you can handle" is survivorship bias. People who got more than they could handle are dead.
