You return to the bay your parents studied when you were little. They were scientists. Your current boyfriend "owns" the boat (family money). You swim out alone on a day the others try put the jetski stupid idea but you wanted to find the cave you remember going to with the boy that was on the research vessel with your family. You don't remember him to well and your father forbade you from talking to him ever again
After your mother died you moved away the research your family had made was ridiculed and the only thing not on some conspiracy websites were the contents of your father's notebook
One of your friends found an article about unknown spots and the bay was listed there with a bogeous story and a painting you recognized the scenery and the plan of vacationing there was hatched
Electric devices stopped working the closer you got
In the notebook were the only pictures you had of that childhood friend
You get stuck in the caves and meet a researcher called Eric he claims to be a government worker and that you guys should not stay here. He waits with you for the tide to receded and swims with you back to the boat
He talks to your friends but strangely he is in no hurry to leave says he wants to stay the night to gain strength and swim out the next morning your friends are okay with that because when he reports back to his colleagues they will have to leave
So he stays and your families history gets brought up he is intrigued and your friend goes and shows him your dads notebook he is more interested in the photo of you and your friend than anything else
So you recall your life without a filter bc fuck them for driving your family mad while researching their stuff let them feel what they caused
And tell him about your friend that you tried to find for so long
He is weirdly invested and happy about you admitting that you miss him and never gave up searching
