I’m finding is fascinating lately how many big brands whose business is traditionally an online business are using more offline channels to advertise and even sell.
Last week in the free local newspapers South African giant online retail store Takealot.com was advertising. Huge multi page advertising brochure. Not something I’ve seen often - although their forerunner Kalahari.net used to do that often. Why the need to go offline? The majority of companies, agencies and advertising companies constantly sell us the idea that we should drop offline advertising and purchasing and move purely digital.
Even more fascinating to me is the idea of the Amazon Treasure Truck. Amazon is an online store - but more and more they’re embracing the offline world. I guess we need the combination. I love the idea of this treasure truck though. There is so much potential for interesting developments with this idea.

Awesome South African architecture in Durban, South Africa. This awesome piece of architectural design is incredibly unique. We’ve recently started renting out rooms in the house on Airbnb. Who’s coming to stay? https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/27863932?s=51
You could earn up to $225 a month hosting in Durban. Learn more about how hosting works.
So recently we decided to list a room in our house on Airbnb. Within a week we’ve had several bookings! Our first guest arrives this evening! What could be easier? If you’ve ever wanted to make some extra money from that empty room in your house - maybe it’s worth a look?
Laelia orchids are really one of my favourites. Such an elegant structure and design.
Calanthe orchids are really not that widely available - but they really are easy plants to take care of - you just have to deal with the fact that they’re only a bulb and nothing much else for part of the year. Their flowers last for ages! Worth adding to your collection.
African ansellia or leopard orchid
The plants are found throughout neotropical and subtropical Africa. It was named after John Ansell, an English assistant botanist. who found the first specimens in 1841 on the Fernando Po Island in West Africa.
Demonstrating the need to really plan something out before implementation... showing the importance of design and planning. If this was done with intent (which I’m hoping it was) it really demonstrates really good design and concept - showing the need for planning...
My husband and I have collected orchids for year. When we visited Mozambique 12 years ago we bought an ansellia Africana from a guy on the side of the road. Since then we’ve been pretty much obsessed with these awesome african species. A few years back I desperately wanted a tattoo and decided to get an ansellia africana tattooed on my arm. I really love the tattoo. The orchid pictured above is a paler variety (which occurs when the plants are from further south in Africa... the higher up - the darker the spots)... Really looking forward to our Mozambique originals coming into flower soon

Me: Okay, I’ve built the website you requested! What do you think?
Client: NO! The website is in color! Don’t try to rip me off. I will NOT pay more for this.
Me: Uh… Why do you think I’m ripping you off?
Client: BECAUSE IT’S IN COLOR! I ALWAYS HAVE TO PAY MORE WHEN I GET MY FLYERS PRINTED IN COLOR!
That’s right – he assumed the same rules apply to web design as print media.
