Test inspired by Scott Pilgrim vs The World. Lighting was animated frame by frame, i created the images in Photoshop. Consists of 3 frames, 3 different images. The transparency and glow effects is done in AE. The complicated part was getting the right look and timing.
I forgot where i got the song for this video but it was a really nice riff by someone i found on youtube, so if the original musician would like to claim credit for this riff do let me know, i'll put your name here.
An animation made in AE which started off as a painting i did for fun. Used AE’s puppet rig.
Haha i just realized someone used my name and work in a book titled: 'Death Representations in Literature: Form and Theories' - Adriana Teodorescu, Cambridge Scholars Publishing. I contacted Adriana (who’s the editor) and learnt that the writer is Silvia Marin Barutcieff. She’s a Senior Lecturer at the University of Bucharest. I find it amusing because so much thought and symbolism has been laid down by the writer onto my work. Those things weren’t even on my mind. This reflects how establishments present art as an academic discipline, study of art history in schools etc. The passage: "In the case of the Chinese artist Pu Ziyang, who signs with the pseudonym Joe Basara, the graphic style is oriented, as the author declares himself, to a Walt Disney's direction, demonstrating the versatility of the digital media. In a red dress symbolizing the force of life, the virgin lets herself to be held by the scythe, which thus becomes a playing accessory, meant to outline the erotic relation with death. The blade of the scythe turns into a kind of shawl that the young woman holds above her shoulders, like gaining the upper hand on the skeleton in the right. The game makes us think undoubtedly about Melanie Blanchard's experience, the heroine of Michel Tournier, and about her fascination for sharp, cutting objects, about the absence of fear in the feminine characters of the 16th century, about Hans Baldung Grien, Nikkolaus Manuel or Hans Schwarz. Basara's girl seems to be a woman expert in eroticism, rather than a shy, lamenting virgin, a woman fed, like Melanie, on the mystery of carnal love, acquired in the world of shadows. In order to lead the reading, Basara introduces in it a caption in which Death says: "Ok babe, you win" Red is part of the accessories that other authors like Jamie Hernandez de la Torre, Tony Sandoval or Mike Davis, use to equip their heroines with. The red veils that the feminine characters of the three artists wear contrast strongly with the mortuary ambience in which they evolve. The reverse also exists, in Otto Schmidt, where the red cape does not belong to the young woman now, who wears a similar black item, but to death, a sign that the balance of power has shifted."

My first tablet was the Intuos 2. 1024 pressure levels.
And after that, for the longest time i was boycotting Wacom because i thought their tablets were too expensive, and i was hearing that the nibs were wearing off too fast and scratching the tablet's surface.
So i searched for an alternative. In 2013, i found the Huion K58, made by a Chinese company in Shenzhen. It had 2048 pressure levels, and cost only USD61.30 (back then). The cheongsam lady is my first sketch using the Huion K58.
It was a great alternative to Intuos, but one year later i ordered more Huion tablets (to sell) only to find that the quality and performance was no longer up to my expectations. I consider myself lucky to own the earlier versions.
For those who currently use Huion tablets, if your nib wears off too fast, i recommend getting monoprice nibs (the white one in the picture). Can get them dirt cheap if you're in the USA. If you're in Singapore, i have alot of monoprice nibs on hand too.
Anyway now i own an Intuos 5. I think the current driver for Intuos helps to remove line jitter in Photoshop.
I don't like the newer Huion drivers. I think they affect the pen pressure badly. Line jitter is evident when i use my Huion tablet regardless of which driver i use.
But line cleanliness wasn't a major concern for me because i painted over my sketch lines. Most of my works were done using the K58.
Also, i could use Paint Tool Sai for clean lines.
If you want to download the older Huion driver, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B9zEGM-8zFReSmxKajg1aEpBWEk
Beach Girl illustration. This work has significance to me because it was my first decently completed digital painting, and i had just left teaching to ‘step back’ into the creative field. One of the artists who greatly inspired me then was Alexandre "Zedig" Diboine. Do check out his works!I was captivated by his style of rendering and the design of his characters. This work was done using his Photoshop brushes. You can see it started out really sketchy, and refinement was done by overpainting on layers. I used Zbrush to project the tattoo on a cylinder to get a more accurate look of the tattoo on the girl's curved arm.
Just messing around =p
