ngl Zhongli probably would have never noticed that he has feelings for you. It would take a looooonnnngggg time for him to realize it. And if anything, you'd have to be the one to confess or drop hints first.
But once he does get the idea that he may, possibly, perhaps, have feelings for you, he's conflicted. He's not entirely sure how he should approach this.
He's real subtle when it comes trying to show you that he has taken interest in you. And by subtle, I mean he's giving you weirdly expensive gifts like jewelry or other trinkets while he takes you out on a stroll in the moonlight, monologuing about some love story that has to do with the moon.
It's a gradual thing that happens between you two. Before long he's acting like he's been your lover for years. Someone once asked if Zhongli was single and he immediately answered that he was in a loving relationship with his s/o. And you're just? bitch when did you ask me out???
That's when Zhongli realizes that he's never officially confessed.
After all that and he does tell you that he likes you a lot and wants to be with you, you finally start your relationship with him. damn I got really specific there oops
He's not really shy or awkward when it comes to initiating any kind of affection. He doesn't mind pda at ALL. If he wants to give his lover a smooch, then he's going to give his lover a smooch and be all sappy about it.
He never understood why you became shy during the beginning stages of your relationship because this is just what two people do when they love each other. But he does have to admit it's pretty cute when you become flustered when he gently takes a hold of your hand and kisses the back of it. little shit even does it on purpose sometimes to tease you, but that's a secret.
He enjoys the little things in your relationship. For the most part, he doesn't do anything too extravagant (unless someone else is paying). He likes to take you out on long walks through Liyue Harbor, or some other place that has fresh air and a stunning view that will allow the both of you to converse with each other for hours.
A lot of times he tells you stories about the past or some stories that he's heard from other people. One time he became a little worried that he bored you with his nonstop talking. So make sure to reassure him that you enjoy his stories and love listening to him talk, okay?
He falls even deeper in love with you when he knows you like hearing his voice.
When you first started going out, he straight up tells you that he used to be a god. He wants to be honest, but also reassure you that he's left that life behind. He just wants to live normally and peacefully with you. He understands if you want to leave him though. But please don't because he'll be really sad :(
When it comes to affection, he's not the type to constantly be all over you all the time. Don't get him wrong, he loves touching you and showing you some loving, but he prefers smaller acts of affection.
For example, he likes to hold your hand when he's reading or when the two of you are out dining. It keeps you connected even when you're doing something else, and it doesn't involve being glued to your side. And as I mentioned before, it gives him the chance to kiss the backs of your hands and rubbed a gentle thumb against your knuckles.
When the two of you are alone and don't plan on going out anywhere, he usually has you laying against his chest as he runs a hand through your hair. This always ends up with the two of you just talking about the most absurd things.
Another old sap that likes to call you "love" or "darling". He's also a firm believer that calling you by your first name is also a term of endearment. He says it with as much love and admiration that it makes you s w o o n.
He's not the type to coddle you either. Zhongli knows that you can figure out and do many things on your own. Just because he has lots of experience and talents, doesn't mean he should just give you the answer to everything or do it for you. He knows you are your own person and it would be selfish of him to take that away from you.
But just know, he won't hesitate to murder a whole army for your sake. He loves you dearly and if he were to see you hurt, pray to the gods that they never find out who the cause was.

I don't really see him as someone who cares about dom/sub dynamics. Like he just wants to make love with you and he doesn't care who's doing who. But when he does see himself as a dom, he can be rough af.
For the most part, he's not that rough with you. In fact, he's quite loving and focused more on your pleasure than his. He just wants his darling to feel good and make sweet, sweet loving.
