When David Dobrik said he supported being friends with people who have opposing opinions I should have ended my support of him. You would think a undocumented immigrant would understand not being friends with people who hated him because his parents brought him to this country for a better life but David Dobrik chose white supremacy.
David Dobrik is a light skinned. If you showed people his photo, they probably wouldn’t have guessed he was undocumented. That is his white privilege showing. Living on the border and doing organizational work in the state of Texas, I have seen what white supremacy and fascism have done on first hand accounts.
Jason Nash and Dirty Dom and their behavior should have made me ended my support for Nash and the rest of the vlog squad. I shamefully put it aside and made excuses. A year ago I would have made up an excuse. Now, I cannot think of one because there really is no excuse for their behavior. I too was caught up with the idea of a famous friend group and now only look at it with disgust and shamefulness.
Now with these recent accusations I will not continue my support of this group. The sexism, misogyny, and racism showed by members of the vlog squad should have ended my support for them a long time ago. I am disgusted by my own excuses, my support (monetary and otherwise), and I stand in solidarity for all the victims in this sexual assault case (I cannot think of another word at the moment) at the hands of David Dobrik and the vlog squad.
I do not want to be the type of person who would not stand up for this type of thing. I will continue to stand along side survivors as I have done my entire life and condemn all my actions in their support (writing or otherwise).
