It’s a great plan, right? Holidays are too spread out. We should have a gift giving holiday every other month or something. Not just because I want to receive gifts, I also love giving them. Oh yeah, where are you from? I’m from Massachusetts, so winter and I are frenemies. I miss the winter too, though. The first snowfall is always fun. Yep, this is perfect.

Oh definitely! My problem is I’m more of a gift giver than a gift receiver- I love handing out presents. Probably why I’m always dirt poor for a week or two after a holiday. So let’s keep the holidays just the way they are, yeah? For the sake of my wallet. I’m originally from here in Miami actually, but I always tell people I’m from NYC- that place felt more like home than Miami ever did when I was little. Oh yeah? What part of Mass are you from? Maybe I’ll fly back up there this winter just so I can throw a single snowball. Good, I’m glad you like it.

First Date- John and Wren

“Well of coarse Australia, aren’t we in the Outback right now mate?” Wren said, a small giggle escaping her lips at her awful rendition of an Australian accent. She was never good with accents, no matter what country or state. As soon as she said it, a bright pink blush erupted on her cheeks. She had a bit of a silly and or odd side that she always tried her best to reign it, but it escaped at times, especially when sh got comfortable with someone. She watched nervously for John’s reaction, and luckily he seemed to be okay with it. After she calmed down from her small bout of embarrassment Wren replied to his second comment, a small smile playing on her lips. “I-I’d like that a lot. I keep this bucket list of things I want to do in certain cities, so you have to promise to take me to New Yorks best pizza you’ve ever had.”

John laughed, grinning at her and shaking his head. Color has risen in his cheeks. God, she was flippin adorable. “Oh of course, of course- Silly me! You know, you can’t say the words good, eye, and might all together without sounding Australian?” John asked, smirking slightly. She would try it- they always did. It never failed to amuse him. His smirk softened into a normal smile, if a somewhat nervous one, when she spoke again. “Yeah? Great. That would uh... That would be fun. I promise I can do that- I know a place that serves pizza slices that are bigger than your head, no joke. They’re true greasy pizza through and through, but they’re delicious.” After a moment, John quirked a brow. “What else is on your New York bucket list?”

Maybe I will paint the shop, just for kicks! Nothing crazy, but... It could be nice. It’s a bookstore, really. It’s the family business- Lighton Books. I took over about a year ago.

Maybe when Christmas rolls around I’ll ask my dad to buy me one. Or one day I’ll break and splurge a little. Exactly, the coffee is the important part. I’ve always loved everything to do with Autumn, including pumpkin flavored things. It works out in my favor that it’s become a big deal. Thank you!

I’m a winter guy myself- I like staying warm at home with coffee and a book and my dog, all the while knowing outside is nice and chilly. I’m going to miss the snow this year though. No problem! Not right now, no, though I really want a dog once I’m slightly more settled. The apartment feels too empty with just me in it. New running shoes are such a hassle, especially once you’ve already broken yours in.

Dogs are the best. I may be biased since I’m allergic to cats, but still. I was an only child, so I was used to an empty house, but now that I have Oodles, I can’t imagine anything quiet. I’ll say! Oh well. No rest of the wicked, right?

“I’m sure they really appreciate it. Nice to customers huh? Do you work in a restaurant or something like that? Exactly- You don’t need a million words to make someone feel something or be entranced by something. Sometimes you just need a few choice words, and it’s magic.” John laughed at how corny he sounded before shaking his head, scratching the back of his neck. “I actually never graduated college. You’re looking at a dropout here. I’ve had it for a little over a year. Pleasure to meet you too Riley.”

“See? It’s patented for success! It’s not a neutral book- Either it does nothin’ for ya or it does everything. That’s high school though. I’m actually trying to be, but uh... Well, let’s just say writing is hard.”

First Date- John and Wren

Wren listened intently as John spoke, her elbows resting softly at the edge of the table, she was never the best at table manners. She leaned slightly forwards in order to shorten the distance between them and in order to show John she was interested in what he was saying. She’d read is some stupid magazine when she was younger guys always likes when you actively listened and tried to seem interested. With John though she didn’t need to try to seem interested, it came naturally. She liked hearing what he had to say. Their conversation was quickly interrupted when the waitress came to take their orders. They had both ordered a different cut of steak ; what they had previously decided on. Wren found the least expensive one on the menu, still feeling guilty about it’s price. When the waitress left Wren responded. “Those all sound lovely. I think we have a lot in common although I’d add Australia, Spain, Costa Rica, and well, New York.” she finished.

John almost leaned back a bit as Wren leaned forward. It wasn’t that he was uncomfortable, oh no, but her eyes were just so captivating, and well... To be honest, she was giving him butterflies. She was just gorgeous- How’d he luck out to get an interesting AND beautiful woman to be his first real date? John placed his order politely with a smile and handed both of their menus to their waitress. He also took a sip of his drink, since the waitress had dropped them off- He’d just gotten a glass of water with lemon. “Ah, Australia! I forgot about that one. Australia would be awesome. All your places sound nice too. And y’know, I could return the favor and show you around New York too. That’s my turf.” He said with a grin.

Way to old.” She looks around  with a nod. “Reading doesn’t necessarily make you smart but do you feel like your father pushing caused your love to literature or was it thesmall amount relationships that lead you to reading and writing?”

“Yep, this was. Still feels like it is sometimes. This place has been in my family for generations- It was my destiny to take over.” John replied with a wry smile. “I feel like my father pushing me definitely lead to me literature and writing and all that. I read before he pushed me, but never with any serious intent or passion. He started me off on the right track.”

Well originally I’m from here, Miami, and I like it here well enough now! When I’m a kid I thought it was boring though. I always tell people I’m from NYC, just because that place was the first place that really felt like home before I moved back here. I love NYC still with all my heart.

Locust- What was your favorite book as a child?

Before To Kill a Mockingbird? Probably Charlotte’s Web. I always got depressed once Charlotte died, but the story itself felt like home.

Wrap presents. Christmas really is the most wonderful time of the year in my opinion, and I love giving gifts, whether I can afford to or not.
