Car and Bike show at League City Park.
I finally got around to editing a few of these from last weekend. The best assignment I ever had at a newspaper was to spend a few days at the old Confederate Air Force Museum in Harlingen, Texas before it was moved to Midland in the early 1990′s. The Lone Star Flight Museum in Galveston, Texas took a pretty good hit during Hurricane Ike’s onslaught. It is slated to move to Ellington Field in South Houston sometime next year.
Got in a little stick time with the Fujinon xf 90mm f/2 at Kemah Boardwalk this a.m. It has the angle of view of a 135mm lens on a standard 35mm frame size, though the perspective of a 90mm. This may be the sharpest lens I’ve used on a digital camera.
A few more from Galveston
Several images from Galveston.
Spent a few days in West Texas. Activity in the Permian Basin (and Delaware Basin) has slowed quite a bit. Most of the yards were full of idle equipment. The most impressive being a business between Midland and Odessa that had 30-40 stacked rigs sitting upright. We stopped by PeeWee Dalton’s boots on Hwy. 80 to look around where the owner told me that the rigs were under contract and it is cheaper to have them sitting idle in the contractors yard than to have them on site.
A few images from Kemah Boardwalk this morning
Did a senior session in downtown Houston with Dade this morning. This is our fourth shoot, the first three being cosplay sessions. Dade will graduate from an area high school in a few weeks.
Did a senior session with my nephew, Alex, in Alvin, Texas this afternoon. He’s involved in theater arts at Alvin High School and is working on a future as a voice actor.
Top Water Grill in San Leon, Texas has fresh off the boat shrimp and a cool atmosphere. It also has the best cole slaw I’ve even eaten. The shrimp boats were in today and Santa was keeping watch over the dock.
I got out late this morning and decided to try to find a little color on this gray day. Kemah, Texas, Boardwalk was deserted except for a few amusement park employees and some intrepid fishermen.
Working in downtown Houston has some neat perks. I now ride the bus in from a bedroom community. The tunnel system has a lot of neat restaurants. I’m a block from city hall, and today I was able to slip out at lunch and enjoy the Veteran’s Day Parade.
We had fun last weekend doing an engagement/save-the-date session at George Ranch in Richmond with Chris and Elizabeth. He is a PE teacher, she a choir director, and both are as sweet as southern iced tea.
Light study at the American National Insurance building in Galveston, Texas
The annual Friendswood, Texas 4th of July Grand Parade is a slice of small-town Americana. The high school marching band, veterans and civic organizations, local politicians and businesses participate. Friendswood, which is located between Houston and Galveston and currently has a population of roughly 30,000, was founded in July of 1895 by Quaker settlers seeking to establish a community dedicated to God. We moved here in 1996 and lived for 11 years before moving to neighboring League City.
I photographed a Camaro this morning. I’m still stunned the young man who owns it got up before sunrise to meet me. He is going to change it up now that he has pictures of it.
My cousin, Nicole, in and around College Station last weekend
