“My gut says cobalt blue, but if you want to stand out, I say go big or go home and pick the red. It’ll definitely be a lot more eye-catching,” John mused, glancing over the fabrics before nodding firmly. “Yep, I’d go with the red-- it’s fiery.”

“Everyone has sea legs if they stay off the water, lest they drown.” Hook couldn’t help the small liver of curiosity at seeing the small Darling anywhere near his boat. The only reason he could think for it was due to some elaborate plan of his nemesis, but he couldn’t be sure. “What were you doing in the water kid? Specially in the water besides my boat.”

His eyes widening at the mention of drowning, John managed an uneasy chuckle. “I guess you’re right, just have to be more careful next time I suppose.” Shrugging at Hook’s curious inquiry, John admitted, “I like to come down here whenever I need to clear my head... it’s pretty peaceful out here. Guess I just need to make sure I watch where I’m stepping though.”

 "I am hoping it does,“ said Jenny with a smile,” I could use some change.“ The idea of having an adventure was one she liked. Only because Ollie had told her before that she needed to get out more, live a little. Most of her time had been spent focusing on school and other things. Her head tilted as he spoke of his parents,” I know they are both lawyers, I actually ran into your mom the other day.“ She had the feeling he didn’t know that,” And she did ask questions but none of them were that bad.“

“Change isn’t always a bad thing,” John reasoned-- though if he were being completely honest, it was something that he still had a difficult time adjusting to. Things had been changing too quickly with his friends lately, and it made him feel like he was being left behind. “You did?” he asked, desperately hoping that his mother hadn’t said anything to incriminate him. He and Jenny had only been friends for a short time, he couldn’t risk his mother accidentally divulging any embarrassing information about him. “What kind of things did she ask you?”

Elsa couldn’t help but laugh at John’s reply; if she’d known he liked to sleep through the afternoon, surely she wouldn’t have woken him up that morning. “I’ll keep that in mind for next time.”

Nodding in agreement, she was suddenly grateful for always being over-prepared for everything and always packing so much when going somewhere. No matter the occasion, Elsa liked to pack essentials like snacks, water, and even over-the-counter pain killers in case of a headache. “Hmm,” she replied, deciding they could begin exploring now if they wanted. “I’m sure we could find something if we walked around! Maybe a cave of some sort?”

“Ah, that’s alright,” he assured her, grinning back at the blonde. “I mean, I might as well try to not be a garbage person and get up at a reasonable hour, right? Plus the view made the early morning well worth it. And I may or may not be running on fumes and caffeine.”

John prided himself on being able to get by on the least whenever he was out with the Lost Boys, so he was grateful that Elsa had come prepared for anything they might encounter during the day. His impulsive nature lends itself to the best adventures, but something had to be said for being prepared. “Sounds good to me! And who knows, maybe we’ll find some cool hidden places up here just walking around.”

“True, finding someplace to drown my sorrows in ice cream is always a positive.” Boo sighed, running a hand through her hair. “Not so great. There was a huge fight a couple nights ago, and my parents left for their trip 2 days early.” She frowned.

“Exactly. There’s nothing that a sugar high can’t fix,” he promised as they rounded a corner on their way to the shop. Frowning at the news, John ventured to ask, “Why did they leave so early if they had a big blowout? You okay?”

“I was wandering around about 9 or 10 months ago after my parents and I had another one of our infamous fights.” Boo always ranted to John about her parents, and graciously, he let her. “Then, I stumbled upon this magnificent place. It’s near my place, only like a 5 minute walk.”

Nodding in understanding when she mentioned a fight with her parents, John knew all too well just how strenuous their relationship was-- another reason why the two became such fast friends. “Well, at least something good came of that, right? How have things been at home lately, by the way?”

who are your favorite and least favorite residents of carthay?

“Oh, well my favorites are easy. John and Michael, of course. Belle is a close second, though. And then there’s Peter. I suppose I don’t really have a least favorite… but if I just had to choose, it has to be James, doesn’t it? But really, I just think he’s misunderstood.”

what’s your favorite memory of when the kids were young?

      ❝  THIS LITTLE BAKING COMPETITION  we had in the house .  it’s more of a family memory really ,  but it was the first time we did something unconventional with the kids  —  you know ,  other than the usual walk in the park or beach trip .  i wonder if they still remember a thing …  it was boys versus girls ,  &  george was really confident that he would win because well ,  that’s george for you ,  but also because he had both john  &  michael on his team ;  so wendy  &  i decided to recruit nana .  it made no difference of course ,  but at least the teams were even now .  i think my wonderful husband forgot that nor john or michael knew how to read back then ,  whereas wendy was already learning her polysyllables  &  numbers .  long story short ,  george was in charge of doing the dishes for a whole week ,  but i don’t think he minded it at all .  it was definitely fun ,  &  the kitchen was a big mess afterwards  —  michael had too much fun with the flour .  ❞

Boo laughed. “Of course I’m a genius.” She flipped her hair, grinning at him. “And, that’s why we’re such good friends, Darling. We both love food.”

“I can’t argue with you there-- I think our friendship was built on the basis of a mutual love for food,” he agreed, grinning back at her. “So how’d you find this place?”

favorite things about your siblings?

“Can I be completely horrible and say everything?” Wendy quipped, laughing ever so slightly. “It’s very silly, I know, but they are my two most favorite people on this planet. Most people would say their family drives them insane, but I couldn’t imagine my life without Michael or John. I suppose, if I had to pick, Michael’s got heart, you know? He’s empathetic. Always knows when I need to be cheered up or when I just want to run away for a little while. And John, he’s the brains. I wish I could have just a bit of his smarts. He always knows how to get out of situations that one. But really, underneath it all, is the joy at discovery. He loves learning, don’t let him fool you, and that’s what I love most about him.”

favorite thing about the kids?

   ❝  I COULD CERTAINLY LIST  of all the things i love about each but frankly ,  my favorite thing is something that i’ve noticed in all three ;  their  i m a g i n a t i o n .  george might disagree with me on this ,  but keeping your imagination afloat is very important even as you grow older ,  &  i’m glad our kids haven’t let go of theirs .  individually ,  i love how adventurous wendy is  —  it reminds me a lot of myself when i was her age .  it can be worrisome at times ,  but i trust her judgement ;  bravery  &  adventure walk hand in hand ,  &  i  know  my girl is brave .  john ,  of course ,  is a brilliant boy .  he’s always been smart beyond his years ,  &  i’m so happy about that .  all three are very clever ,  of course ,  but john has something very  particular  about him .  &  michael …  what’s not to love ?  he’s a sweet ,  selfless boy ,  &  i think this world needs more people like him .  i’m equally proud of all three of my babies .   ❞
