"They could not change me if they tried. So why don’t you keep your greasy knows out of my business? Go get zozzled or something. I haven’t the time to waste with a…a washed up dewdropper like yourself. A piss-on Radley. I have better things to do. Now good. Bye.”
Sounds to me like they already are, but that's none of my business, I agree. I will. You say this word, but I really don't think you understand what it means. I have a job -- hell, I'm running a business. What are you doing besides organizing school dances and yearbook meetings? Nothing of any importance, as I've said before. This place, what you do here, none of it will matter when you leave. You'll go back to being just another face on the street, and whatever house you were in will hold no weight. But have fun in your delusion.
"Yes. Go on with your preaching, Johnny. Go on with your opinions and what not. But you are no better than the rest, are you? You are a goof—a sap—and you are here with your holier-than-thou attitude, claiming it is nothing but smarts. Your impression means nothing to me, I must say. Absolutely nothing. I do not care who you are or what you do for this campus. I do not care about the words that fall off your tongue or about the ideas in your mind. It isn’t my fault that you are jealous or are seeking someone to take your anger out on. I won’t be your scapegoat. You can find some little Rossdale trollop for that. Good day, Johnny. I do hope you manage to gain complete use out of this room as you wish to, seeing as you were so adamant on not giving it up.”
Last I checked, you were the only one here spouting off words claiming you're owed respect like you're fucking royalty. I'm just a piss-on Radley, that I'm aware of. I understand my place and make no intentions of moving. I'm sorry that you don't care, but you should take some of my advice to heart. There's no trickery here, no jealousy, no hatred. I'm just trying to help you, for God knows what reason. Have a good day. Hope you get whatever you're looking for, I guess. Just... Try to stay true to yourself. Don't let them change you.
Chloe rolled her eyes, pushing past the boy where he stood and walking over to the closet. “As I have said, your opinions are of no matter to me,” she repeated through clenched teeth. The Oxford shook her head, opening the closet and reaching in to grab her cello case. “I have no reason to stand around and listen to this negativity. I will also never understand how people can be so negative, especially toward others. But you can sit here in your pessimism all you want, Radley, and I will go and find another word elsewhere,” she said, keeping her head held high as she walked back toward the door to the room. She was an Oxford, soon-to-be Bellemont. His words had no meaning to her.
You people are all the same. Doesn't it get tiring? Trying to impress these people who will never accept you? Having to hide what you truly want to do? I'm not being pessimistic, Oxford, I'm being realistic. You hardly strike me as Bellemont material; and if I, a forsaken Radley, am getting that impression, I'm sure the Belles are just as well. Honestly, I wouldn't be getting so quote-on-quote negative with you if you'd actually stop to listen to what you were saying and understand that you're not important. To me or to anyone else. You might think you are, but you aren't. Or else you would be a Belle already. That's just how it works. The ambition you have is quite admirable, but it's time to give it a rest.
Any new speakeasy’s worthy stopping by? Likewise. Spent the entire summer in a drunken haze by the beach. Definitely didn’t miss the New York climate.
There's this one called The Catwalk down in Jersey. It's pretty darb but the manager is a bit shady, so be careful. Sounds like the Leo we all know and adore. Say, no ladies come into your life this summer? I don't believe that for a second. Ditto, fella.
Nice catch. I won’t say if it was intentional, I’ll just say it’s true. What’s your point? That doesn’t mean I don’t have fun.
Thanks. I like to keep a sharp eye. Doll, I never said you couldn't. But I can't believe anyone could have any kind of fun around a sour attitude like yours. Lighten up and you could make a lot more friends.
Well, I’m not very good at following schedules anyhow, so I guess it really is nothing new for me. And really? You’re not messing with me are you? Don’t tell me I’ve been spending all this time looking for a building that doesn’t exist!
A Bellemont who isn't on top of her schedule? My, my, what do they do with you? I'm afraid not, doll. It's alright though, it won't be the last time either. The type-writers here have a tendency to misprint things.
"Charming. Really. You are trying to offend me, but I will not be offended. Your opinion has no matter to me, Charming. I may be an Oxford now, but mark my words I will become a Bellemont by the end of the year. And then you will have to respect me." Chloe’s jaw locked and she glanced over to the closest where her cello was currently waiting to be played. Then she looked back at the brunette in front of her. "Just leave already, I have things I need to do."
Darling, I wouldn't respect you if you were the fucking Queen of England. I have no interest in what house you sleep in. Just because you have money doesn't mean you deserve any of my respect. You're no different than anyone else out in the real world. There's nothing you've done for me or for anyone that could even justify the respect you claim to be owed. And honestly, it's a little sad that you don't realize that. I pity you and the rest of you Stella worshipers.
Tell me - is it the gates or the women that are more heavenly?
The gates, doll.
"I don’t find that surprising in the least. I am very in demand these days. But I have no time to waste with a sap like yourself. So, I will ask kindly once: please leave.”
Huh? Are you? I wouldn't have guessed based upon on your snobbish attitude and fairly decent looks. But if that's what you say, I guess I have to believe such a respectable and sought after Oxford woman like yourself. Why don't you make me, doll? After all, I was here first.
"Honestly, it’s appalling. You would think freshman would learn by now that maroon is out. Anyhow, I have this room privately booked for the next hour or so—why are you here?”
Maybe I came to see you.
I know it’s only the second day of classes, but I figure I ought to make my plea early. Wanted: one incredibly smart, highly motivated Mrs. Grundy who excels at class work. Payment type is negotiable, but preferably in connections, hooch, and the company of the lovely Delia Blair. Applicants encouraged to stop by Bellemont for more details.
Sorry to say but I am none of those things. Though I'd never pass up an opportunity to walk through the heavenly gates of Bellemont.
Dunno. I have extremely low expectations as is.
You look delighted to be back here. How was summer?
Eh, I can't blame you there.
Oh it was peachy, fella. Lots of working and parading around with Don. Nothing to grand, I'm sad to say. Yours?
You’re right. I’m far more of… say… a lioness. Much more suiting. It’s actually quite swell, thanks.
Was that a slick reference to our school mascot? Because if so, kudos. Oh, is it? That's why there's a scowl permanently fixed to your face?
Well, my schedule here tells me I should have been at the south wing of Whitby Hall about… an hour ago. This is terrible, I only had one class today and I was absent.
Don't fret, doll. I had three today yet here I am. Though I guess I'm not the best role model to follow. Uh, I'm not sure I know where you're speaking of. I know there's a Whitly Hall just across from the Student Center, but I can't recall any Whitby Hall.
Number one, I suggest you put away the pet names if you’d like to keep your face. And number two, hostile is my middle name. Deal with it.
You're nowhere as cute as a pet. What a terrible life for you, then.
I’m dreadfully sorry, but I’ve gotten a bit lost actually. I’ve never had classes on this side of the campus before, and I’ve been looking for this one building for the past half an hour now.
It's no trouble, doll. What building are you lookin' for? Perhaps I could direct you to the way you need to go.
