Agriculture & My Plans!

Recently bought a new farm thanks to all the money I’ve been making from the servants. I also hope to invest in slaves for my upcoming farms, but I’m afraid of uprisings as seen in other farms where slaves have overtaken their owners. However, another 5 years for the indentured servants to go, which is plenty of time to rack up my money in hopes of buying out large farms to create a monopoly. However this will be a tough task as there are many farmers who grow both wheat and corn, long with a variety of different produce. The large slave owners will easily out price my attempts at monopolizing the agriculture industry, and will undermine all my efforts, I think it’s time to think of a new plan…

Aha, you don’t have any slaves? Try to be like me, a self made man of the 1700′s. People in Pennsylvania call me the king of wheat because I grow enough wheat to supply the rest of the colony with bread every night. And also you needed slaves right? Well I have more than 100 slaves working on my plantation so good luck trying to buy more than me. The hardest part is building and monopolizing the agriculture on your land. It had taken me many years to be in the position I am today and that is because of my handwork and dedication. Also due to my strictness and behavior to my slaves

Kinda sucks now. Now every land around me owned by others are wheat plantations. Very hard for me to make a lot of profit from the wheat grown on my land. In the coming years I will hand over my land to my son who currently resides in England because of my old age. I have faith that he will maintain the plantation as I did, maybe even better than I ever had.

I am slowly coming to the end of my life, still walking at 61. Most of my other acquaintances had died earlier. I think my hard work and plantation has kept me healthy and active all these years since I had arrived. Although my life may be coming to the end, other young ones have turned into very productive individuals and had transformed this colony. Just a couple days ago, the Walking Purchase took place. All these youngins running to see how much more land William Penn can acquire from the Indians.

Oh i'm getting older and older I don’t know who is going to watch the plantation when I am gone. In 1727 many Scottish and Germans sailed up the Delaware River. They were looking for the opportunity to start a life in the New World and asked me if they could work on my plantation. Because many of my Negro slaves were dying from diseases and age, I had no other choice but to allow them to work in my plantation. I employed about 547 German settlers and 234 Scottish settlers. I did not know they would turn out to be very hard working people.

After I had bought 250 acres of land in the New Land, I needed slaves to do the heavy work. At first I had purchased 29 Indentured servants from England to work for 3 years. After the 3 years, the slaves would be granted their freedom. Therefore I had to think ahead for the future of my plantation. Who would work on the plantation and gather the wheat? Thank the lord for the Bristol Ship’s landing in 1684. This large ship from African states brought 150 negro slaves in which I successfully purchased 57. There weren't many people in Pennsylvania that had slaves, even my neighbors didn't have any slaves.

LAND HOOOOOOOOOOOO! We finally reached land! The first people we had met when we arrived were the Leni Lenape tribe. They greeted us and immediately William Penn agreed on a treaty with them. The treaty was to purchase the land granted to us by King Charles Ⅱ. The Leni Lenape were even kind enough to keep this treaty as long as the water flows and the sun shines. After that treaty, we kept kind relations with the Indians and Leni Lenape as the land was once theirs. As long the treaty lasted, us all colonists of Pennsylvania kept good relations with them and treated them with respect.

Living Youngg

It took so much time for me to set this blog up or whatever everyone calls it. Let me move further on or else i'll go on a tangent. My name is John TinkerBell and I am a proud Quaker plantation owner. I was born in a small town in England and raised into a Quaker family. I was a tradesmen for about 10 years, however in 1681 I was offered the opportunity to travel to the New World with other Quaker men. In late 1682 I was brought over on a large ship with William Penn from Deal, England. After I had settled in the New World, I soon acquired 250 acres of land to begin a plantation.

My plantation currently consists of 96 slaves, 29 Indentured servants and 57 Negro slaves. I treat them with respect as long as they fulfill their duties of the day. But if they don't obey my rules there are always punishments. On my plantation I grow wheat which we later turn into bread. My plantation provides the people of the city of Philadelphia with plentiful bread to eat with their meals.
