Backstory.
âThis is no place for girls,â her father would say whenever young Francesca inquired about the family business. Unlike her sister, Francesca felt no allure toward that world; she was content playing the role of the principessa, steering clear of its darkness. Francesca excelled as the perfect daughterâstudious, responsible, and adept at ignoring what she shouldnât see. It was a challenge, especially since she had a curious mind. But after her father snapped and grounded her for asking about the blood on his shoes, Francesca recognized there was a dark world outside of the safe bubble her father built for her. Perhaps that was when her passion for investigation began. It was fascinating how much information one could gather unnoticed, as if the shadows themselves became her allies in uncovering the truths of the family business. When she was a preteen, Francesca finally grasped the reality of her family's business. Nothing she had overheard prepared her for witnessing those she thought of as family beat a man to death. The experience left her in shock. When her father found her crying in her room, he comforted her but insisted she never speak of what she had seen. With her lip trembling, she asked him if they were bad people, but he remained silent. At that point, Francesca wanted nothing to do with the Serpents. Her fragile heart couldn't bear the thought of the atrocities committed by those she loved. Instead, she chose to focus on helping others rather than causing harm. She became deeply involved in community service and outreach for those affected by gang life, believing it was her way of countering the evil her family had inflicted. However, she struggled with the hypocrisy of enjoying a lavish lifestyle funded by her family's terrible actions. Francesca loved her family and could never abandon them, leaving her trapped in an internal conflict she couldnât resolve. She stayed on a positive path for as long as she could. Francesca earned her undergraduate degree in journalism and criminal justice from the University of Missouri. Her parents argued that Columbia, which had also accepted her, offered an exceptional journalism program, but Francesca was desperate to distance herself from her family and the darkness she knew they were involved in. Her time at university was something she cherished; she didnât have to worry about gang life or its consequences catching up to her. After graduation, she received an amazing job offer from ABC that brought her back to New York. No matter how far you run, you can never escape your fate. While she adamantly refused to join the Serpents, Francesca still supported them in her own way. News stories about their misdeeds were conveniently lost or dropped from her station. New Yorkers admired her dedication to cleaning up the city and her fresh perspectives on crime, unaware of the secrets she was hiding. This life had brought her many cherished friendships and relationships, but she could feel the corruption growing within her. Francesca had committed actions she thought were for the greater good of herself and her loved ones, but now it was slowly tearing her apart. With the recent death of Giovanni Moretti, her anguish is only growing.
