I do think that part of the reason that The Dreamer Trilogy is Like That is because the premise is inherently flawed in that The Raven Cycle was originally magical realism, a genre that doesn't rely on explanations for magic and magic systems and actually coasts on them being unexplainable, whereas The Dreamer Trilogy had to expand the world beyond Henrietta and start explaining things, which makes the whole premise begin to fall apart.
One of my things with monster movies is that the best ones don't actually show the monster. You get glimpses of it, sure, but you never see the thing itself, because nothing they can make for a movie will look as scary as what you're imagining. My favorite example of this is Signs, where you get little flashes in silhouette, or blurry TV footage, or a reflection--but when you see the monster itself you're like. yeah that's a humanoid alien alright. (It's a good alien, to be fair.)
TRC didn't show the monster. It was left up to the reader to wonder how this universe worked. We know that Ronan dreamed Cabeswater and that he's the Greywaren, but we didn't really know what that means, and neither does he. And yes, there are things that folks call plot holes or dropped storylines--the Camaro wheel in the lake, for instance--but I didn't mind those. There's stuff going on that I didn't understand, but the characters didn't understand either, so the magic was the same for all of us.
TDT shows the monster. It's meant to be this big, all-encompassing explanation of the whole universe, but it's nearly impossible to do that in a way that feels fulfilling. Our beloved, flawed teenage boy goes from being 'different' to being an incomprehensible timeless being in the shape of a boy. He spends most of the third book in his monster form--to me, it felt like he wasn't even Ronan for most of this story. The entire concept of him as an eldritch being in a relationship with a mortal (albeit psychic) boy isn't addressed; their reunion and explanation moment is vague, there isn't any dialogue, and all the reader comes out of it with is knowing that Ronan and Adam love each other and are staying together and that Ronan and Gansey 100% kissed on a 3 AM orange juice run. There was stuff going on in this world that I didn't understand, but the characters did, and that's what felt lacking.
can’t believe america made a whole holiday in honor of the party kavinsky threw at the end of tdt and whatever tf ronan and kanvinsky had going on there
I cannot believe edge of seventeen by stevie nicks canonically plays during ganseys introduction .
literally
Rereading TRC is like coming home to the memory of summers long gone with the honeysuckle in full bloom, and the rope swing that rotted off years ago still swaying in the wind, and your palm stinging from scrapping it climbing a tree but you don’t mind because the sun is warm, and the water cool, and you can hear that friend you loved so hard your little heart could burst with it laughing just behind you, and you know it will never look like this again. Nothing will ever feel this much like home again, and it hurts somethin fierce.
“Well, Jesus. What did they die of?” has got to be one of the most underrated Gansey moments

"YA books are brain rotting at any age" okay I know booktok is annoying but please get offline
For real though I may make jokes but YA is great and an absolutely valuable resource for tweens/teens and isn't completely represented by the love triangle romances it's become associated with (which tbh who cares if it does have that). YA includes Holes by Louis Sachar, Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K Le Guin, The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros, Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, Brown Girl Dreaming by Jacqueline Woodson, The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. And y'know I grew up reading a bunch of Sarah Dessen books, the Flowers in the Attic series, Thirteen Reasons Why, Twilight, Maximum Ride, etc etc and even though I probably wouldn't recommend those books now, they nurtured a love of reading that followed me afterwards!!! I'm grateful that people eventually realized that there is a tumultuous period between childhood and adulthood and gave that period of life a space in literature

CABESWATER
Finally 4th sheet all together! All scanned!!
It was one of the hardest one for me, and I can't say that I'm fully satisfied how it turned out. I wish i had more time and force to think about Cabeswater's design better, because there are so much to think about and to create. But i love how happy and bright this sheet is, it's even stands out from the others.

HE BEGAN TO DREAM
Ronan and Chainsaw (Gansey) moments
Gansey didn’t know how to describe how it felt, to see death crawling inches from him, to know that in a few seconds, he could have gone from "a promising student" to "beyond saving."
Noah, who killed you?
We were friends
I don't think there was enough of Noah in this account. Fixed.
