Akira doesn’t just ask permission to marry Ann from her parents, he asks both Shiho and Ryuji. He wants them to know he’ll take care of her, be there for her, and make her happy. They’re some of the closest people to her, so it’d make sense that he wanted their blessing in some sense. Then when he finally gets it, Ryuji of course calls dibs on being an uncle, not that Akira would think otherwise.

‘Encounter’ is such a nice song, the game did it more justice than the animation did. I say this because while I like dialogue, the silence betwen Akira and Ann was enough for me. Too often do I hear dialogue that just doesn’t seem to fit or makes things too rushed. But despite the Encounter scene being only a few seconds long, they made it feel longer by Akira’s reaction. 

These kinds of scenes remind me of an old romance and frankly the scene is a little poetic. The lighting is picturesque and frames them together in their own scene. It’s weird that the morning Tokyo street is empty, I’d expect people to be passing them, but they’re framed so well together. They’re under a store named Jeunesse et Beauté, meaning young and beautiful, couldn’t be anymore fitting. 

Their encounter is brief and short in that moment, so is youth, it’s brief and then it’s gone. It’s not till Kamoshida comes into the picture that the colors kind of change in a very fleeting sense, not darker, but with less light. Her expression darkens in the car, the lights don’t kind of dance anymore. But when she met Akira, it was different. It’s a nice tie into Ann’s “you’re my light” line near the end of her Confidant.
