Some more still life studies from morning sessions at work. For the first painting, is was really surprised I was able to hit the local colors relatively accurately. I was proud of myself, because that rarely happens. XD
This is my current cover photo, but I thought I’d post it normally. :)
More traditional paintings! The first one is in gouache, which I painted at a park near my place. And, the second was a still life study done in poster paint from Daiso, haha.
I wanted to show our new coworker that you don’t need expensive paint to study. I had bought the poster paint (primaries, plus white) because I wanted to see how it would compare to gouache, acrylic and oil. It tends to build up and create a texture, but compared closest to gouache, to me, since the water would reactive the applied paint. It also tends to dry lighter than when you apply the paint, so I was surprised when I lost some initial contrast.
I was positively surprised by the end result of both to of these. It kinda took me out a painting rut, but the struggle continues, haha.
These are the banners I created for our creative department’s FB page, Creative Apartment. It’s a really fun way to learn about Japanese culture and customs. Each season is so distinct from each other. It’s a huge contrast from California’s 365-ish days sun. XD
A study from a photo I took on a short trip to Enoshima with my friends. Loved the temple, and was inspired to paint it. This one took longer than expected, but educational nonetheless. :)
Back in December, my bosses pitched the idea of sending a unique 年賀状(ねんがじおう・New Year’s Card)to partner companies, and friends of the company. It was a really fun assignment, and probably the most rewarding. The best part was seeing the card in person, especially since we worked from conception to final design. Hopefully, we’ll be able to work on more assignments like this one ^^
I love doodling random robots for some reason. I’m really inspired by many mech designs from Japanese anime, and by some of Baymax’s early sketches for Big Hero 6.
It’s been a while since I drew one of these guys, plus I recently tried to develop a better painting pipeline for myself, so I tired it out here. Still took me longer than I expected, but it was hella fun. Hopefully, this guy won’t go solo for long. ^^
It’s been a while since I posted some still lifes. I went through a bit of a slump, and I think these two paintings helped me get out of it. Still had some poor paintings between these paintings, and after as well. Hopefully, I’ll be posting more of these :)
This piece I did in conjunction with my coworkers. We decided we would create pieces based on our hometowns.
For myself, I moved a couple times, and couldn’t really relate to anything in the towns I lived in, so I went for something more sentimental: my grandparents’ home. It was the first home I lived in, and I was often left under the supervision of my adolescent uncles at the time.
One time they locked ourselves out of the house, so they had me crawl through the window of the master bedroom, haha. Fun times. :)
This is part of a side project my coworker and I did a few months back. We picked an occupation and a location out of a couple of boxes and I got “Pro Gamer” and “Jamaica,” haha. We weren’t on the project for very long, but I tried to explore in a different style and complete a piece in a somewhat different style. Took a lot of inspiration from Alberto Mielgo. Took a while for me, but learned a lot :)
It’s been ages since I’ve updated, but I thought this would be really cool to share!
One of my first character designs at work has been turned into a model by my coworker, Tatsuya Jinjo, AKA Jonji-san, haha. Jonji also designed the backpack, which was totally awesome. I was so stoked to see it come life~ t’was only a test, but he did a great job! :D
Fall has totally passed, but I just finally got to posting these. I really wanted to capture the beautiful colors at the park. This the first year I’ve experienced this level of change in the seasons, haha.

Fun sketch from an image that was stuck in my head. Learned some cool things during this sketch. :)
Some more outfits I sketched up. :)
