Each state has its own laws which address the procedures for dissolution. For example, in Georgia, corporations that have not issued shares or have not commenced business may dissolve by filing their Articles of Dissolution. However, a corporation that has issued shares and commenced business may dissolve by first filing a Notice of Intent to Dissolve, and publishing the notice of dissolution in a newspaper of general circulation in the county where your corporation’s registered office is located.

My dad had me look over a document and sign it this morning so he is now my power of attorney. He said it was basically to make things easier for him to handle stuff when I’m in the hospital or incapacitated. He said he would then be able to deal with things financially and be able to talk to the doctors bc in the past he’s had a lot of doctors tell him they’re unable to talk about me at all. He can also manage my finances and bank accounts and deal with anything legal. There was also a part included about his ability to access anything digital of mine including email, texts, and social media. I was like um… I’m not comfortable with that. He said “well what if you make a threat to kill yourself?” And I was like “I would probably never ever do that.” He said “ok well sometimes you get important emails about medical or financial stuff.” I thought about it and there’s not really anything in my email that I could predict wanting to keep from him so I left in the email part but crossed everything else out. The idea that he wanted to monitor my social media was just… scary. I asked him if this gave him medical guardianship and he said no but that we could pursue that if I wanted (I was like NOOOOOO). I’m also applying for disabled dependent status for insurance so I can stay on their insurance. Idk if that gave him this idea or if he was already planning it. But I guess it’s just been a really hard thing to come to terms with - that they believe me in some cases incompetent. And I agree, that when I am really sick I can’t make decisions that are in my best interest, especially when I’m hospitalized for something. But it’s just really scary and sobering that things have gotten to this point, even though currently I’m doing pretty well. When I was a teenager and suicidal, as much as I hated it, it made sense why they needed to make the decisions bc I couldn’t keep myself safe. But now I am officially an Adult and I still am at times unable to act in my best interest. It makes me wonder how many years ahead of me I will need to rely on my parents this way.

Is anyone able to explain to me in clear terms what this really means? Who normally requires a power of attorney? Is it a big deal? Are they then able to basically have control of my life? Did I miss anything? Can they make treatment decisions for me or force involuntary admissions (I would assume that’s medical guardianship but idk)? Can I revoke this in the moment?

Intellectual property laws demand a 21st-century solution

The health and wellbeing of people should be put before corporate profits

When the South African government attempted to amend its laws in 1997 to avail itself of affordable generic medicines for the treatment of HIV/Aids, the full legal might of the global pharmaceutical industry bore down on the country, delaying implementation and extracting a high human cost. South Africa eventually won its case, but the government learned its lesson: it did not try again to put its citizens’ health and wellbeing into its own hands by challenging the conventional global intellectual property (IP) regime.

Until now. The South African cabinet is preparing to finalise an IP policy that promises to expand access to medicines substantially. South Africa will now undoubtedly face all manner of bilateral and multilateral pressure from wealthy countries. But the government is right, and other developing and emerging economies should follow in its footsteps.

Over the last two decades, there has been serious pushback from the developing world against the current IP regime. In large part, this is because wealthy countries have sought to impose a one-size-fits-all model on the world, by influencing the rule-making process at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and forcing their will via trade agreements.

The IP standards advanced countries favour typically are designed not to maximise innovation and scientific progress, but to maximise the profits of big pharmaceutical companies and others able to sway trade negotiations. No surprise, then, that large developing countries with substantial industrial bases – such as South Africa, India and Brazil – are leading the counterattack.

These countries are mainly taking aim at the most visible manifestation of IP injustice: the accessibility of essential medicines. In India, a 2005 amendment created a unique mechanism to restore balance and fairness to patenting standards, thereby safeguarding access. Overcoming several challenges in domestic and international proceedings, the law has been found to comply with WTO standards. In Brazil, early action by the government to treat people with HIV/Aids resulted in several successful negotiations, lowering drug prices considerably.

i‘ve always loved mondays - maybe because it feels like a fresh start every week? saturdays and sundays are filled with family, grocery shopping and relaxing, so i usually don’t get much work done for school. at least i managed to do some memorising on my media law & business administration notes so it’s fine!!

it’s only about 11:15 am here and i’m already halfway through my to do list for today!! what a nice feeling. I did procrastinate between 9-11 am though and watched some going seventeen episodes BUT i’m back on track and will probably turn off my phone now to finish my list and maybe do some extra work if i feel like it 🥰 hope everyone is having a great day/evening, stay safe! 🤍
