Jonnie paused for a moment, standing still as the stranger spoke. He didn’t seem scary, and he was here in the big house they all shared. He must be good then! “The new stuff! Sparkly and red and green!”

"Well, the human version of Christmas is on Christmas Eve night, Santa Claus comes and brings kids who have been good all year presents. It doesn’t snow up here, at least where we live, but if it did we would build snowbunnies and ride on sleds."

"Santie Claws? Why? Wha’s snow?"

"I…don’t really know. That’s just what I’ve learned from last year. Snow is… you know the ice we put in your drinks? It’s like really small versions of that, but like rain………hmmm, like frozen rain! It’s white and cold and you can build stuff with it, like at the beach in the sand."

"A-addelay" he tried to copy, his face scrunched up slightly in concentration. Jonnie paused afterwards, looking to her teeth. They were rather different…and big!

He squirmed slightly, wanting to go back to his Daddy. “But you migh’ be scary…” Jonnie shifted, moving to the edge of her knees, beginning to climb down from the armchair.

She smiled encouragingly. That was close enough to her name for her. Ada, honestly, the things she had to go by now to fit in … !

“I promise I’m not.” She didn’t hold him back, just leaned her elbows on her knees and looked at him curiously. “Or really, I’m the good sort of scary. I keep the bad sort away.” Like my family.

Jonnie stood now a few steps away from the chair, holding onto the bottom of his PJ top, debating on what to do.

"I don' know....sowwy Adelay." He said, followed by a big yawn.

"He might be out, or in his room. I dunno." He said with a shrug.

Jonnie shrunk back a bit with a cheeky grin, even though he knew he was being a bit naughty. “Was gonna get a drink, but talkin’ to you! I go back in a bit Ada”

"Adélaide , please. My name is Adélaide ." Ada nodded a little, but grinned deviously, her fangs prominant. "Oh, so you ran away to see the scary things, child?" She chuckled. "You’re lucky you didn’t find anything scarier than me!" She was playing now. Any other time, she might’ve taken just a little, but if this was her lover’s - or even just a long-term feed’s - sibling, then she needed to play nicely. "There’s nasties around."

"We can certainly try. It might take a few trips to the craft store, but we will find a way." He softly smiled, trying not to think about the fact we would be on his own with Jonnie for who knows how long while Mally was off gallivanting with the other bloodsuckers. Even if he did bring him around for Jonnie’s sake, it’s not as if he’d remember their son.

"Can go now? Are you gonna be a Buzz cat too Daddy?" He asked, returning to stroking the soft fur. "Can Cella dress up too?!" He gasped suddenly, excited for his little friend.

He giggled and squirmed in her lap at the tickles. “No tickles! No tickles!” he cried, before calming down enough to look at her confused. “Gentymans? Uhmm….Daddy in bathoom and Papa away lots.”

She giggled and hugged him gently. Ada’d wanted children, back before she was turned, but now, that wasn’t an option. She still missed her nieces and nephews sometimes, too. She nodded slightly when he spoke.

"And your brother?" Best to get her answers soon. She paused. "Your parents just let you wander freely? When everyone’s scary, like you said?” That hardly sounded responsible. Ada clicked her tongue. “That’s not exactly safe, is it?”

"He might be out, or in his room. I dunno." He said with a shrug.

"I have a Daddy AND a Papa! No Mummy though. Don’ need one." he added. He didn’t want one either, not since watching Cinderella. That lady was really mean!

Ada smiled at him. “So I should look for someone just as cute as you, shouldn’t I?” She filed away his scent with a mental note to find someone who was close.

"No mummy?" She tickled him gently. "So it’s a gentleman’s club, hmm?" She ruffled his hair. "Where’re your fathers now?"
