I tend to overthink things - I’ve been wanting to try photographing my felt sculptures to create illustrations for a while, but kept putting it off for not knowing where to start. So this morning I pulled out some stuff I already made, stuck it together, and just snapped some quick photos on my phone - and I really like how it turned out, despite it being obviously unpolished. The faux branch overhanging was a happy accident (it’s attached to the lamp I assembled everything next to) - wouldn’t have happened if I had over-planned it! I’m really thinking about the potential for this as an illustration style I could offer, but at the very least I’d like to make prints of this type of thing and sell them/probably the pieces used for them (I’m working on reopening Mt. Marten!). Little felted pumpkins for the start of autumn! I’ll be adding this item to my shop Mt. Marten soon - which is now back open! You will notice some differences for the time being though - no post office visits for me, so that coupled with recent events involving USPS means that I won’t be selling any of my one-of-kind and/or higher value sculptures right now, and I’m only shipping domestically (US) using Priority Mail. I know that’s limiting, but it’s better than just being closed indefinitely so I’m going with it! I have to give a shout-out to artist Gail Sibley (don’t think she has an Instagram?). Even though she works with soft pastels and I’m working in oil pastel, her blog at howtopastel.com has been really inspirational since I discovered it in the past couple of months and has helped make some painting concepts really click.
