Final Instagram feed for Hello 101 - @WeAreHello101
With our hello 101 project, we decided against compiling them all into a book because of the simple fact that as soon as they are printed that is it, there is no way of carrying the project on which is something we want to do. We eventually came up with the idea of making an Instagram account for them in which we would at a later date invite people to participate in and submit their own hand drawn hellos. These screen shots show how it currently looks, we are both extremely pleased with how this is coming together, especially utilising a set number of squares to produce a bigger picture. That is something we were focused on nailing from the start, whether it be on the CREAM Instagram account or Hello101. The account name is WeAreHello101, feel free to follow!
DPS - Mock Up
Here is another development of a DPS based around Dave Alexander. There are still tweaks to be made and certain areas that need tidying up. However we feel these are a nice start and are really starting to express the style we wish to portray through our research and sketches.
DPS - Dave Alexander
Some more developments with regards to layout for Dave’s work. The text at this point isn’t important and still needs information adding to it.
Paper Magazine
Similar style of magazine I’ve just stumbled across, which shows our style is highly sought after and in. This gives us great confidence in taking Cream forward.
Screenshots of the cover and DPS’s of 3 of the featured artists, following these pages will be pages featuring more of their work but without the brush strokes, we wanted to keep the following pages very clean and not interrupt the work itself.
Looking into the use of more elaborate grid styles that we can pluck inspiration from for our CREAM magazine.
Playing around with a different style than the usual I would aim for to see if I can come up with something a bit more intricate. I really like the idea of having a singular C as the main front point for the logo and have the name CREAM down the spine of the book and featured on the bottom of each page. I really like the final image with the darker shades of drips inside the text, I think if we could print the word cream in a matte printing ink and have the drips glossy it would have a really nice look to it.
DubCNN - Rebrand
Above is a possible rebrand that the mag may be taken up. Completed by an American student and may well be taken forward. The cover definitely looks a lot more stylised, and relates a lot more Cream which we will be producing, it even has a similar colour palette!
DubCNN
Luckily, one of my family members started a magazine a few years back and is currently running his business out in the states. DubCNN is a classic style west coast hip hop magazine. Given, it doesn’t match our style or target audience, but I was able to catch up with him and ask him some questions surrounding his business and any tips with regards to starting a magazine.

Beautiful branding, I love the width of all the numerals on the last image and the 3D looking typeface is something I think could work brilliantly as a logo for our magazine.
For our magazine we want to appeal to a very specific target audience and we feel that the whole Northern Quarter crown would be the perfect demographic to launch the magazine to. Luckily for me and Stef we have come to know a variety of the people who work and own small business around that area making it miles easier for us to get the magazine into the shops we want. As an idea for the sort of thing that is currently existing inside them shops i've dug out a load of magazines, prints and other various things that i've picked up over the years. These will work great in terms of letting us know the kind of thing we are up against, they will also come in handy for inspiration for the aesthetic of our magazine.
I was brought in today by a local barbers to help them promote the barber shop, the idea being that for specific clients we would shoot the barber in action along with some street shots of the final cuts. I have also been asked to photograph a new range of products produced by the shop itself, really happy with the way these have come out along with the rest of the set. I'm excited to see what comes next from this as it's an ongoing project.
Manchester Charities.
With myself and Stef looking to brand and create a magazine focusing on creatives within the Manchester region. Along side this and the typographic work, we are looking at contacting some independent charities around Manchester, selecting a couple and creating some nice branding for them throughout. Everything from logo to campaigns which could help raise awareness for the charity. This would be something perfect for us to stick our teeth into and really broaden the range of our work. Tomorrow we will be planning our branding and direction for the magazine as well as researching into some local charities.
There are a few favourites that we have in mind!
