I feel for someone like Ar'alani, whose whole life was dedicated to the Ascendancy, the fall of homeworld would be a reoccurring theme of her nightmares.
"Young men and women, ready to give their lives to protect their homeworld. Noble and honorable…and a sacrifice, if it was ever required, that … would be a complete and utter waste."
happy possible birthday to the blue guy i think maybe. idk i remember hearing today was his canon birthday once and it was literally in my calendar so god strike me down if i’m wrong
While we're looking up at the Artemis II astronauts journeying to the Moon, they're looking back home at us.
In this image, Earth peeks through the capsule window, reminding us that a view like this relies on the ingenuity and hard work of countless people back home.
In the second image, we see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere.
Follow the Artemis II astronauts on their journey to the Moon:
Twenty years ago, even ten, I would have said the destruction of the Chiss Ascendancy would be a straightforward exercise. No longer. A new generation of military leaders has arisen, warriors who cannot be trusted to walk recklessly down the well-worn paths of manipulation set before them. Supreme General Ba’kif, Admiral Ar’alani, a few others—they think and plan outside the normal patterns. Unpredictable.
If you are willing to do a Thrass×reader where he is still alive and he meets Thrawn again on the Chimaera and he becomes smitten with one of the officer on the bridge. I would love to see the two brothers reunite again and Thrawn helping his brother find some kind of happiness, maybe?
Thraaaaaaaaaaaaaass TT.TT I don't care what Tim says, he survived the crash!!!!

Mitth'ras'safis sighs in front of the large bay window, twirling his drink in his glass lazily. Before him expands the never-ending night of the universe with its constellations and moons.
A night he used to look at with a silent question: will the Chiss rescue squad come in his lifetime, or after?
He isn't so full of himself to think the Ascendancy will send an entire squad for a single lost chiss, all syndic he might be.
But for the Outbound flight… They will come!
And they would save the Chiss lost on this rock by the same occasion.
His saviors did come, more than a decade later. And they were as surprising as completely unpredictable!
His younger brother, now a Grand Admiral of that former Republic, now a Human Empire… And with him, a flock of humans in green uniforms looking at him and his brothers of misfortune with silent pity and disdain.
A mix Thrass always hated to stir in others, Chiss or aliens.
"Are you comfortable?" A deep, musical voice rises behind Thrass' seat in the large sofa.
He doesn't even bother to turn his head, a tight grin stretching his lips as he takes a sip of his wine.
"Very comfortable, Thrawn, thank you."
His brother sits down next to him, in his neat white uniform and golden epaulets.
How funny is it that both species' uniforms share the same colors for the highest officers? Despite the distance, both species shared the same idea…
For several minutes, the two Mitths remain silent, enjoying the dark view with their wine, no other officer coming to disturb their peace. They clink their glasses and drink slowly, appreciating this floating moment.
Serene
Calm
Rare
Too rare…
"So." Thrass speaks at last, "'Grand Admiral of the Empire', mmh?" a hint of playful mockery in his voice
"Indeed." Thrawn drinks a sip, unbothered.
"I did not know your disagreements with the Syndicure ran so deeply as to resort to desertion to an alien society." Thrass eyes his junior.
Thrawn stops mid-movement, lowering his glass to his lap, red eyes getting lost in the void in front of them.
"I'm sorry, Thrawn. My humor is a bit rusted after all this time." Thrass admits going too far.
"No… It was meant to look as such if Chiss ever came to cross paths with me after my exile…" Thrawn pensively responds.
"Your secret mission, you mean?"
"Of course, of course, dear Brother…"
Thrass observes his dear younger brother, seemingly as lost as he was for more than a decade on that desolate planet with the rest of the Outbound flight crew and passengers.
"You will not be remembered as a traitor, Thrawn." Thrass declares solemnly, "Soon, your true mission will be revealed, and all Chiss will be forced to admit that you ever acted in favor and protection of the Ascendancy and its population. All the Syndics who congratulated themself in your exile will kiss your hand in reverence when we return with a proper army to protect the Chaos."
Thrawn simply sighs.
"May your words be true, Thrass."
"I am always right on political matters, remember?"
"Yes… I always wondered about the legacy I left in the Ascendancy. Did I leave our worlds to agonise? Did I motivate the warriors to protect our civilisation? Will I be remembered as an exiled traitor or as someone who always tried to do good by the Chiss?"
"You want to be remembered as a hero?"
"I have no such ambitions. I want my memory to be used for the betterment of our people, may it be in the glory of my victories, or the disgrace of my exile. I am no hero, but I hope to be a catalyst for the survival of our species and culture." Thrawn explains, a hint of… Sadness in his tone, "I would be… disappointed that all my efforts go to waste in sterile and immobile political squabblings instead of uniting us all against our enemies."
"I see…" Thrass nods slowly.
Thrawn takes a big breath, straightening his posture like he realised he was opening himself up.
"Anyway… This crosses my mind sometimes when I am bored." He clears his throat.
"I object that it crosses your mind more often than that, dear brother." Thrass retorts, "It is perfectly natural to hope your sacrifice was not in vain. And when we return together, you will see that you were the spark of a glorious movement in the Chiss population to take the threats seriously. And you will be remembered as a hero." He promises with a reassuring grin.
"We will return, but not together, brother." The younger Mitth takes a large sip, moistening his lips.
"Pardon?" Thrass asks, wondering if he heard right.
"I will send you back, but I won't follow. My work is not yet done. I may not yet return home."
"But… You are a Grand Admiral! You order entire fleets! We can go home together."
"No, I am not yet completely free of my movement. I have yet to see the Emperor fall to seize full control of all the fleets. Your return is more critical, Thrass, as a missing member of the 8th and a member of the Syndicure, I will make sure you return to the Ascendancy safely and in record time."
"Thrawn, this is nonsense. We just found each other, and you expect me to abandon you behind?" Thrass demands, outraged by the Grand Admiral.
"Only me?" Thrawn eyes his fellow with a lopsided grin.
"Who else?!"
"Mmmmh. A certain officer… (color) eyes, (color) skin, (color) hair… A sharp tongue and a swift spirit?"
"(Y/n)?! What do they-" Thrass closes his mouth shut, realising he spoke too much.
"Yes, (Y/n)… I had their name on the tip of my tongue, thank you, Thrass."
Thrass keeps his mouth shut, boiling inside.
How could he spill the tea so easily like that? He was becoming too rusty for a Syndic!
True, he found the human officer cute.
Very much to his taste.
But he remained firmly in the bounds of modesty and politeness with them! He remained discreet!
Yet Thrawn noticed him making doe eyes to one of his officers?
Urgh, such a hassle…
"You always had good taste, my brother." Thrawn simply muses, amused at Thrass' muteness.
"I have no idea what you are talking about."
"Come on, my brother. We are both too old for that game. You can be true to me, and admit you found your dearest in the ranks of my subordinates."
Thrass reluctantly agrees in his mind, but it is not that simple…
"If only they were not human… Or me not Chiss…" He slouches on the sofa, abandoning all his bravado.
"That's what worries you?" Thrawn notes, rising a single blue-black eyebrow.
"As it should!"
"Not necessarily."
"How so?"
"We both spent a decade with aliens, getting to know them. Their ways. Their thought patterns. Their weaknesses, their strengths. Did you not start to affectionate them?"
"Did you?!" Thrass choke.
"Not really, but I started to take comfort in the presence of some of them. I made allies. Even some friends. I have their support and loyalty. I know them. They are no Chiss, but they are no less honorable."
"By the Warrior, what are you saying, Thrawn? This is nonsense…" Thrass combs his fingers in his long hair.
"I am simply pointing out that we both are way past the pettiness of race and species, by now. What if you are a Chiss, and they are a Human? You are both strong, good people, and this is all that matters in our unmerciful circumstances."
"I did not abandon all dignity!"
"You mean your Chiss pride?"
Thrass looks black at his junior, who only shortly chuckles in return.
"I see you did not."
Thrass exhales with frustration.
"How could I even justify that at home?"
"You do not have to justify anything. Interspecies marriages were recorded in our archives." Thrawn finishes his glass, elegantly putting it on the tea table.
"Millenia ago! And incredibly rarely!"
"So you agree? Interspecies marriages are recorded in Chiss archives." Thrawn grins tightly, getting comfortable among the cushions.
Thrass refrains from a tssk.
Of course, Interspecies marriages were recorded; there have been deviant Chiss in all ages!
But that is not him! He isn't deviant! He is better than that!
Or maybe…
Not?
"Did you speak to them?" Thrawn finally inquires after a moment of silence.
"No…"
"Do you intend to?"
"… I do not know. I…" Thrass hesitates, "I do not want to hurt them…"
"You won't. Invite them for a caff in the mess hall, chat with them. You will be surprised by what you might find."
Thrass lets his hand fall on his stomach, feeling suddenly very tired for no reason.
"It sounds so easy when you say so…"
"It is, I am sure of it." Thrawn encourages gently.
"… Thank you, brother." Thrass whispers.
Thrawn's crazy plans always worked until now… Maybe this one will work as well.
"You are welcome, brother."
"So am I to let both my dear brother and the dearest to my heart behind?" The syndic laments.
"You may bring them to the Ascendancy; the more human supports in the Ascendancy, the smoother the collaboration may unfold. I am sure they would love Sposia's beaches."
"I am only half relieved…"
"I know, I am sorry. I wish I could return sooner, but I must do it properly. I need to remain still."
