Last night on Raw, in a defiant moment of destruction, Chris Jericho layed waste to Francesca, Xavier Woods’ prized trombone.

A strong mascot of sorts for The New Day, Francesca was often heard during celebratory moments during matches featuring the popular team. Woods’ reaction was one that caused an uproar of emotions, ranging from joy to heartbreak. WWE trainers did what they could to save Francesca, but unfortunately, nothing could be done.

Following the assault, Woods tweeted the following:

I’m so here for Matt McGorry. I first saw him in OitNB as Bennett (and if you’re up-to-date on that show it’s easy to boo the shit out of his character) so I never thought much of anything about his actor.

But then I start seeing him on social media. He does being a white man so well. He’s an outspoken feminist and he speaks up when there’s injustice that’s affecting the black community. Basically he cares about things that don’t directly affect him, unlike a lot of people in similar positions. And more importantly, he voices his support. He doesn’t just wait for someone to ask him for his opinion so that he can dance around the question and give the most vague non-answer imaginable.

AND he understands his privilege and openly admits that even though he speaks up about these issues he is not an expert. (Meaning he doesn’t do that condescending thing some white people do when they think they understand things like racism and inequality better than the people who actually experience it. i.e. Matt Damon)

And on top of all this, he doesn’t take himself too seriously

There’s this huge myth about me and my career that I was a fitness model that never cared about wrestling that eventually turned wrestler. I’ve been a fan of the business since I was a kid. I loved it. I didn’t think I could do it. I doubted my athletic abilities and didn’t see how a woman would ever be welcomed in wrestling. It was a matter of “I wish but I can’t” instead of “I don’t want to but now I will” so I resent anything else being said. I wasn’t the best wrestler at first, of course, but I worked my butt off within a year into my career. I wanted to get better so I did. I wanted to be the greatest female sports entertainer of all time. I didn’t have a favorite female wrestler growing up but I wanted young girls to be able to say differently; to cite me and not regret that. By empowering girls everywhere, I also empowered myself in an industry that doesn’t really view us as equals to men. When I realized I had accomplished everything I’d ever want to do, and maybe needed to, I decided to carry on with my life and leave wrestling, but I’ll always be a wrestler as much as I am a wife or friend.
