the author of Fushigi Yuugi coming out as x gender in 2019 makes so much sense tbh...
This.
I will forever reblog this every time it’s on my dash because it should be this loud and simple. 💖
Covers of Monthly Halloween 『月刊ハロウィン』
Pokefair and Cosplay
October 31th, 2025
I once again wanted to get this all written by the 24th, but, well, I had other priorities. Happy Halloween now I guess 🎃
Anyway, I watched the first two episodes of Skull-Face Bookseller Honda-san the other day. More importantly, we finished Fushigi Yûgi this week! Even the OVAs, and we're bound to finish Eikoden tonight. I'm feeling like maybe next month I'll stick on the Yû Watase train and either finish reading Ceres or Alice 19th, and/or finish watching the Ceres anime. Just this morning, on the last day of October, I finally finished watching Requiem of the Rose King. Too bad I couldn't touch upon Moriarty the Patriot though.
Recently, I learned there's a Taiwanese live action adaptation of Skip Beat! and I'm kind of curious to check that out eventually.
Speaking of Skip Beat! I still haven't read any of the manga this month yet. HOWEVER, I finally finished the first volume of Hellsing. My best friend lent me the first two volumes, so I guess I'm obliged to read the next. I'm actually enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would.
There's not much new on the otome gaming front. I'm still slowing working through Shiba's route of Ephemeral, Mozu's route of Bustafellows Season2, and SpaceySims' playthrough of Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly.
Pokefair was last Sunday! I'm not actually the biggest Pokémon fan, but I'd say I enjoy it. I used to be obsessed with the original series when I was in middle school, but I never got super into the games. I've played some of the OG game online, Pokémon Go!, and Pokémon Eevee. Someone suggested we should play this super totally legit Pokémon game before we embark on our Pokefair journey to get us in the mindset. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time to sink my teeth into it, so I'm still in the tutorial part as of now.
I wish I had taken more pictures of the event. I really don't have much to show for it. To be honest, the admission fee felt a little overpriced ($20 per adult) for the size of the venue. It was pretty packed when we first arrived. Plus, the address for the venue on the website wasn't very accurate. I wish they had given some clearer instructions on the site about finding parking.
That being said, my group still had fun playing Bingo and trivia, and checking out all the cool booths. One lady just collects Pokemon sticker books and had a whole table just give away free stickers, which was very sweet of her I thought.
I bought some non-pokemon related earrings and a couple of pins to go with my Misty "cosplay". I debated on getting these really cute Japanese TCG card keychains, but decided not to. Part of me regrets it, but at least I got a picture. Maybe next time.
My friend gave me permission to use this image of her last minute cosplay. She said she felt a bit of imposter syndrome whenever anyone complimented her cosplay because it was just something she threw together, but honestly I think it's admirable that she could even make something like this in just one night. A lot of my friends are just so crafty and creative.
If I could learn to manage my time and concentration better, I would want to learn how to make my own accessories in order to be less consumeristic. Although I never read it, there's an old-school Japanese street fashion magazine about people of Harajuku making their own fashion called FRUiTS, and I always admired its vibe. (I just looked up this magazine and learned that the first three volumes are available to purchase in English as an ebook, so I'll definitely have to give them a read now). Maybe this is something I'll write more about, too. I'm also very inspired by doreimani's handmade accessories inspired by shoujo anime and manga.
Actually, a couple weeks ago my friends started a "crochet club" where they gather once a week either at a cafe or Taichi Bubble Tea in order to -- you'll never guess it -- crochet. However, I've also been joining them despite not really knowing how to crochet. I try to learn but get too distracted to stick with it for long. So far I've just been trying to get the hang of holding the hook and crocheting a single chain.
For the final bit of news, I'm going to Nekocon this Sunday! This time I'll remember to take more pictures.
I've had a blog post sitting in my drafts for over a week now 🥲I swear to god I'm gonna post it tomorrow!!

So fun story, I was laid off from my job earlier this week w/ no notice. Support for my content is really important right now. Especially on YouTube & Twitch where I'm monetized already. I've also increased my Ko-fi goal, but every little bit helps. Sharing is appreciated! 💖

unordered list of things that make fushigi yuugi an iconic anime. full of spoilers
its main theme is about the relationship between teenage girls and fiction they project onto in order to cope with and process reality. which seems like it is arguing on one hand that at some point they do have to face the real world and acknowledge their 2D husbandos are just that...
but then it still ends with Miaka's 2D husbando being reincarnated IRL so they can get married. it was the funniest thing i have ever seen.
F in the chat for Yui, Miaka's real world friend who is also the most important driving force of the plot and foil to her, and whose relationship with her is what the whole isekai is meant to reflect. The epilogue does not explore this literally at all.
like there is a heavy implication Yui and Miaka will end up at different high schools because Yui is a better student, and Yui having problems processing this because of some strong possessive feelings; but in the end they just end up at the same high school anyway... along with . the fucjing . 2D husbando
there is a crossdressing genderweird bishie in the emperor's harem who is in love with him. the emperor refuses to take a wife until after they die, and then he marries a woman who looks exactly like them.
don't worry both of these individuals are still also in love with Miaka
the episode where the genderweird bishie dies is basically called "Episode 33: Sorry Nuriko Dies In This One" before the fight even starts.
they are the only one with this treatment btw everyone else just gets killed off one after the other in the last like 5 episodes for no real reason
the obligatory "Old Wise Man" who looks upon the young teenage antics with wisdom and compassion looks like this:

Flashback to that time I made an incredibly rushed blog post about Princess Tutu and masculinity for a graded assignment. It's pretty bad, and I had to somehow tie it into WWE wrestling (???), but at least I had fun writing it. Plus, it kind of inspired me to start this blog.
When it comes to the world of anime, shoujo refers to anime with a young female demographic. But I want us to take a look at one sho
