The Bow Can't be That Cool, Surely?
Bows +1 | Showcase
Yuzu follows close behind her senior, a simple bow in hand to back up the manโs shortblade. The art of the hunt is one that the Hoshidan never often partook in at home. Their hoard of foodstuffs was never truly lacking to require her family to collect game. Yet it was a hobby she fondly remembers performing with her older brother, the two of them taking pride in whenever they could fell a large target.
In that sense, her hunt today is no different: a search for the greatest catch to impress a merchant. A hunt for glory, not survival.
The two remain silent - idle chatter to alert a potential find would only be careless - until the redhead pauses for only a moment and unsheathes his small knife. Not another second is wasted before his weapon is launched forward into an animalโs flesh. Yuzu dashes forward to follow her partner, doing her best to minimize the sound of rustling bushes.
She slightly winces at the fellow hunterโs confirmation of the huntedโs condition, though her face is quick to return to a stern look. Hunting is only a necessity in life, even if the current excursion is merely for sport. All they can do now is honor their victimโs lost life the best they can.
AlthoughโฆYuzu is hesitant to admit that this deer is nowhere near the quality that their โemployerโ has sent them out for.
โThe seller mentioned a great stag. This deer is no older than a child. And their fur is a plain brown,โ Yuzu sighs, lowering her bow as she looks over the deceased mammal. If this rightfully is a child, the adults could still be nearby. Yet her companion is correct, their extended start has only blessed them with this singular result. Time is running shortโฆfor the current day, yes, but Yuzu fears there may be other hunters already hot on their legendary bow-pursuing trail.
Stepping over the creature, Joshua is crude inย his handling ofย the animal.ย Sittingย beside the deer, a cloth is brought out of a smallย satchel. Theย shiny blade is wiped thoroughly, seemingly more worried about whether the blade had become damaged.
"I dunno. Maybeย if we can get our hands on a bird, we can sew the wings on?" It wasn't as if they were told to hunt a specific creature, and there wasn't even any confirmation that there were beasts of note nearby. Thisย could all be some elaborate prank, sending earnest hunters on a wild goose chase just for kicks.ย
Tapping the knife to his knee, he looks over the small deerย once more. "Well, even if this won't do, we can skin it and eat it tonight. Mightย even have extra if we're good about it..." the redheadย muses,ย before chuckling. "Could also use it as bait... see if we can lure something more "legendary" out and make that our beast." The pelt would make some good money, at the very least. Aย consolation prize should they not succeed in getting the bow.
"You ever hunt where you were from?" While trying to make conversation, the deer would be wrapped in the slightly reddened cloth and then bagged in some shoddy knapsack. Noย point in getting bloody now.ย
It's moments like these where Joshua was reminded of his younger years. Forย a short time before he found his passion in gambling, hunting was his way of surviving. Young, trying to make it day by day, too weak to properly hold or shoot a bow, he had more luck standing still in a river and jabbing fish with a blade, one so rusty that no sane person would dare to put that fish anywhere near their mouth.ย
The desert was different, though. Theseย woods were vast, a different gamble compared to what he was used to.ย
