An neat difference between Jotaro and DIO is how they experience anger.

Throughout the final battle, DIO actively tries to sass Jotaro to make him angrier and angrier. He mocks Jotaro, continuously calls him weak, talks down on his entire bloodline, brings up his friend’s deaths several times, all while he keeps bragging and boasting about his own power and his great destiny.

It’s important to remember that DIO sees his anger as one of his bigger weaknesses. It’s a negative trait of his that he’s been trying to repress since childhood. This is exemplified when he slaps Erina and immediately looks appalled by himself, not for hitting a girl, but for letting himself get so worked up.

He tried to piss off Jotaro in an attempt to weaken him, break his concentration, and make him blind with fury, hoping that Jotaro would start to make reckless moves. Needless to say, that plan backfired pretty badly for him, as Jotaro instead uses his anger to fuel himself and only grows stronger from it.

Jotaro and DIO’s fits of anger show themselves in the opposite way;

DIO’s is explosive, while Jotaro’s is silent and festering. DIO snaps and loses his composure, striking with uncalculated blows, while Jotaro accumulates his anger to release when the time is right.

This trait was somewhat shown before, in the Steely Dan fight.

It’s a personality trait that DIO wished he had, but he hasn’t realized Jotaro had it until it was too late as, just like most other characters, he couldn’t read Jotaro.

i think he becomes really obsessed with being a dad at first and takes a gap year or something while his wife still works and is really attentive when jolyne is still a baby and his wife is like “wow what an awesome dad ❤️ i only hope jolyne grows up to like me as much as she loves him haha” and then the second jolyne starts talking and walking by herself and one too many dio loyalist assassination attempts in he immediately starts doing everything in his power to prove them wrong and be the absolute worst he can be. mostly just incidentally not on purpose. also i don’t think he ever makes anywhere near as much effort to be a good husband. he’s there for jolyne only he barely remembers his wife’s name :/

i rewatched the first few eps of sdc for whatever reason idk it was a moment of weakness. and actually the very early episodes add some depth of character to kakyoin that the manga kind of lacks that i really like..... he’s not particularly the focus of all that many scenes in episode 3 outside of the obvious ones but you get a very definite sense of the fact that he’s really freaked out by suddenly being thrown into social interaction with people who can actually see him. for the most part when people address him his answers are very stuttering and hesitant, and by the time we get to episode 4 he’s already found a definite rhythm for himself, a way to keep up his facade of always knowing what he’s doing and what he’s talking about, but at least for that first day or two he’s very uncertain and not doing much to hide it, whether because he’s still disoriented from the flesh bud or because he just has never been in a situation like that before. in particular the brief anime-only scene with him and abdul in the library where they’re talking about holly and dio has a very “nervous and scared boy looking to a trustworthy figure for answers” feel to it, which is a sort of vulnerability kakyoin almost never shows, being as prideful as he generally is. it colors their relationship in a way i like a lot and it’s a real shame they don’t really ever interact one-on-one like that again

yes yes you are so right about this.... a lot of his uncertainty specifically has to do with people checking up on him. he just doesn’t know what to do with the idea that he is a person for whom others might do that. at one point (in the background of a scene where joseph is yelling about something dumb) holly asks him something like “it doesn’t hurt, right, kakyoin-kun?” and he says “uhh... right” and you can just tell he feels like he’s lost control of the situation. kakyoin is rarely one to lose his footing in a conversation like that; he’s not big on filler words because it’s not often that he has to take a moment to consider his answers. he can function perfectly around people who don’t bother with anything more than cold professionalism but genuine warmth isn’t something he knows how to respond to at that moment.

SPOILERS FOR “THUS SPOKE KISHIBE ROHAN” AND “ROHAN AT THE LOUVRE”

1. Rohan Kishibe’s only actual “bad thing he’s done” was try and kill Koichi, Josuke, and Okuyasu in his introductory chapter. Understandably, that’s not super great! But when you read further and learn about his character, you can kind of understand what was going through his head when he did that. Rohan has an incredible hyperfocusing issue. It can make him work on his comics for days without rest, it can make him search for a serial killer constantly without pause, it can make him aloof and blindsides him from other actual human beings. This is why he almost killed them in his first chapter – upon meeting another stand user for the first time ever (he only got his stand three months prior, according to DIU canon – and he’d never met anyone like him), he went super fucking overboard. After he gets forcefully removed from that hyperfocus, he never tries to attack them ever again. He doesn’t try and steal Koichi’s pages. In fact, after that first chapter, he doesn’t steal anyone’s pages.

2. Rohan does not like Josuke in Diamond is Unbreakable canon. In fact, neither of them like each other. Rohan is a dick to Josuke, Josuke is a dick to Rohan. Rohan generally still sees himself as better than everyone else, but on the outside he is still cordial and polite – even respectful – to other people. Just not Josuke. Everyone in the fandom, however, seems to fucking think otherwise. Rohan only really treats Josuke like garbage, and to be honest, can you blame him? Josuke put him in the hospital for a month (it was a deserved punishment, but still) and burned his house down while trying to steal money from him. Rohan literally does not have any reason to be nice to Josuke. He is, however, respectful of Joseph, and the other members of Josuke’s family. He is not a dick to every person he meets. He may have an internal monologue of “I am better than everyone else,” but he doesn’t purposefully flaunt it in front of other people.

3. Does everyone just collectively forget that almost every jobro starts off trying to attack the protagonist? Speedwagon, Kakyoin and Polnareff, Okuyasu, Rohan, Yukako, Yuuya, almost every fucking character in part 4 honestly– like, “Uwaah!! Rohan attacked the main characters so he’s evil!!” is just grasping at low-hanging fruit. Try harder.

4. Rohan ends up caring about the Duwang Gang. He ends up as part of the Duwang Gang. I’m not making this shit up. Do you want proof? In Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan and Rohan at the Louvre, there are instances where Rohan is eating or having tea with Josuke, Okuyasu, and Koichi. In the scene where they’re having tea, it’s at Rohan’s house – meaning that they’ve all become close enough that Rohan is fine with them there. He even ditches them to go to Paris basically halfway through a conversation (another example of that hyperfocusing I mentioned earlier), which means he trusts them enough to just… be alone in his house without him. Do you think Okuyasu, Koichi and Josuke would be close friends with a bad person? Do we all remember when they kinkshamed a man to death?

(CONTEXT: He and the man he’s talking about were trying to save the lives of a huge crowd of people at a train station. Everyone else there was being controlled by these special bugs that live in cellphones. The other man did not survive, but he made sure that no one else was hurt that day. Rohan expressed genuine grief at not being able to help him.

(CONTEXT: The woman he’s carrying got a little too greedy when trying to bargain with forces she didn’t understand. Her fiancé and her mother reaped the consequences by getting in a fatal car crash. She fainted. The bird, which Rohan had saved earlier, was also a victim of those consequences. Rohan singlehandedly saved the woman, the woman’s family, and the bird.)

Hmm, wait, what’s that there? Let me get a close up:

FRIEND???? ROHAN HAS FRIENDS???????? ROHAN IS FRIENDS WITH GENUINE GOODGUY TONIO TRUSSARDI?????????? WHAT A SHOCKER!!!!!

“Sure, I’ll go illegal poaching with you because it sounds fun.”

-That night-

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT HE GENUINELY CARES ABOUT HIS FRIEND, WHAT A FUCKING SURPRISE!

He then proceeds to save Tonio’s life, at great risk to his own.

I’m sure I could fine even more examples of Rohan being a genuinely good person, with more “goodboy” moments than bad, but I have stuff to do so I’ll stop here.

LONG STORY SHORT: ROHAN KISHIBE IS A GOOD MAN, YOUR META IS WRONG AND YOU SHOULD FEEL BAD, AND DON’T COME TO MY HOUSE TO TELL ME SHIT THAT ISN’T TRUE.
