One thing I hope to do more of in 2024 is documenting my days. It’s nice having a place for photos that I don’t necessarily want to order prints for, but want to save in a place that I can look back on and remember things. Hopefully it’ll help with my hazy memory, too.
There's just nothing like going back over something you've written and seeing all your mistakes. I wrote 'forbiddenness' as 'forbideness'... just kill me now. I had the book in front of me while I copied it as well which makes the whole thing worse.
I've known about commonplaces for a while and knew that I had the skeleton of one but it took me a while to get the motivation to compile all the bones.
So I've been collecting everything I've ever written down and throwing it into this one book so I can finally have something worthy of being called a commonplace book without really refering to 500 pieces of paper stored anywhere and everywhere.
I looked around online for organisation/presentation ideas for all kinds of journals. Originally I was just going to write it all like a usual book, but the margins are so useful I'm never going back. I though it might take up too much space but it's really fine, looks neat and gives me space to write notes. I'd considered putting the margin on the right page to the right-hand side (so that all the text is in the middle) like a few pictures I saw while researching but I think left-side margins look better.
The colour coded key might be slightly useless as I write about only a few things, but I'm keeping it for now because who knows? I might branch out, and I'd rather not have to go back and add it all later. (Yawning at the very idea, what a bore).
The colour key is:
Yellow (books), Blue (poetry), Green (quotes) and Orange (reference and lists).
It's literally just poetry and books, like 90%. I've been trying to leave it mostly plain but I've added a few stickers here and there. I've completed ĉ. 40 pages already, still got maybe 30? pages worth to be copied down, then the rest will be free for things as I come across them.

I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.
