Final Mastery Reflection

All good things must come to an end. So is my Mastery journey. I’ve enjoyed the journey and learned so much in this program. Beside accomplishing my goal to get a Master degree in Internet Marketing, I’ve gained great knowledge on how to create and give professional presentations, how to write professional research papers, and much more. These are all import skills that will help me convey my ideas to my targeted audiences now and in the future. I’ve learned to conduct thorough researches, analyzed the results, and put together the comprehensive internet marketing plan for Renpure. I’ll post my report on my personal website & blog www.jnhdesign.com/blog. I’ve attended private school, trade school, and state universities. I must say my experience with Full Sail thru the online program, has been the most challenging, yet rewarding. My time management skills and organization skills had improved tremendously. Also, being in the company of students who conducted themselves with the most professional manner, extremely supportive, and had such great knowledge, really pushed me to work hard on every weekly discussions and assignments. So hat off to all students had gone thru and completed this master program. You’re most hardworking and discipline professionals. This Master program also allow me to learn from the industry’s most experienced professors. They’ve developed most in-depth lessons that reflected the real world situations. They are also very supportive and encouraging individuals, whom contributed greatly to my success in this journey. Internet and the Law

My original object for this course, Internet and the Law, is to gain a better understanding the laws evolving around the practices over the Internet. As an internet marketing, it’s very important that I understand the basics of these laws to avoid committing any misstep that may damage the company’s brand and image. Over the course of four weeks, the course covered a wide range of important topics like jurisdiction, spam, privacy, cybercrime, defamation, and terms of use.

Not knowing any rules and regulations pertain to the online contents, I found myself did a lot of reading and researching. Luckily, the discussions and weekly assignments are all required deep understand of the topic and make arguments to support any propositions that I made. I find this course much more challenging than any of the previous course, mostly due to my lack of prior knowledge on the topics. However, after each discussion and assignment, I’m usually very comfortable knowing the basic of these topics and how to do proper research on them.

This course also focused on the power of persuasion. Each assignment was designed to give the students the opportunity to state their opinion and the research to back up their opinion. This is particularly helpful for me. I got some great chances to practice persuading the audience my thinking with solid research facts to back up my thoughts.

Even though the course didn’t go into very detail on the laws and regulation, as they’re very intensive and complicated. The course provided me an opportunity to learn the basic of these laws and regulations. By knowing the basic remises of these laws and regulation, I have a better direction on what to do and not to do when conducting business on the Internet. I also know what resources to tap into for future researches.

Web Analytics and Optimization

My original object for this course is to explore more in-depth about web analytics and analytic tools. As I go along in this course I find much more information that I’ve never knew before including new tools, tactics, strategies, and implementation plan. I’ve learned to identify trends, set S.M.A.R.T. business goals, and create Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track and measure the success of the digital marketing plan for websites. Based on the assignments given, I got a good practice on how to put together an effective business report.

The course also touched on social media analytics, which often forgotten. Whenever we talked about web analytics, we often think about the main website or the landing pages, and don’t remember to consider social media platforms as well. Social media websites are often the places that we could interact and collect the most information about our potential customers. Therefore, it’s very important to collect and analyze those data more objectively for the best outcomes.

In this course, I also had the opportunity to get certify with Google Analytics. I’ve learn so much going all the study materials, and I must admit that it’s much more complex and valuable than I’ve thought. I’m using Google Analytics tools now, but there were tools that was available that I didn’t know how to utilize them until I’ve gone thru the learning material for the certification. I could proudly say that I am now Google Analytics certified.

I think this class taught me many valuable lessons on web analytics, which all I could and are using in my daily work. The S.M.A.R.T. business goals and KPIs are particularly useful to learn and implemented.

Strategic Internet Public Relations

This class taught me a valuable lesson on working together with other team members to evaluate and combat PR crisis. From the group project, I’ve developed the skill to do better research on finding better ways a company could prevent a PR crisis. The group assignment was also a great learning opportunity to learn about managing the relationship of a company and the public.

The assignments very focused on research and writing skills. I’ve learned to write an effective and newsworthy Press Release. The course had some great reading materials and assignments regarding managing relationships between the company with the public, and the company with its employees.

A great PR strategy can help improve the company’s image, reputation, and increase brand loyalty. Public relation goes hand in hand with the company’s social media efforts. By managing the online reputation effectively could help prevent any major PR crisis.

In order to strategically improve the relationship between the company and the public, the company should put in place these minimum strategic initiatives:

Releases and total circulation: at least 1 every quarter, and every time any newsworthy news is available regarding the company.

Internal events: at least 1 a year, especially for team building, to improve the internal PR. A company’s internal forum could also be an effective way to receive employee’s feedback. It would also act as a community forum to celebrate or providing support to employees.

Charity contacts: keep at least 5 charity contacts. A PR specialist needs to keep good contact with charity organizations. The goal is to provide support to the organizations to build good brand image by contributions to the community.

Increase in favorable customer perception: managing social media to improve ratings.

Advanced Search Engine Optimization

My objective for this course was to understand the core concepts of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). That including learning about optimizing contents for better Search Engine Result Page (SERP) and pitching to the client the ideal package to help them create a better website for SEO. In the first and second week, I learned about keywords and Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising. I used SpyFu to conduct my research on keywords, their cost and their Click-Through-Ratio (CTR). From the result, I put together the best strategy for keywords to purchase and the best AdWords to use. The third week, I learned about different search types and link building, backlinks and external links. I was able to put together a strategic pitch to a potential client on why they should use my service to help to optimize their website for better search results. On the fourth week, I learned about the local search. I learned about how important a local search result is to a business. I was able to find the local search problem for Renpure, and also put created a plan on how they could improve it. For Renpure to improve their local search result, I suggested that they should update all their N.A.P. information with Google, Yahoo, Bing, Facebook, and YellowPages. I also suggested that they should update all their citations, structured and unstructured. I’ve learned a lot in this class. It had a lot of new information that I found very challenging to understand. Nevertheless, the class discussions, exercises, and additional research had helped me understand the reading materials much better.

Advanced Internet Marketing Strategies

For the Advanced Internet Marketing Strategies course, I have learned a lot about setting up online campaigns, how track and measure, and what test to conduct. For the first week, I learned to segment the target audience. I learned about the four segments: spontaneous, humanistic, methodical, and competitive. Each segment was clearly defined and need to be targeted very specially with each ad type. In week 2, I learned about the landing pages and how to test it. I was able to come up with various testing elements for the headline, offer summaries, images, call to action, and the statement of trust. Each one of these elements are combined to create the various landing page. Instead of A/B testing, I learned to conduct the multivariable testing for the landing pages. I learned the most on week 3, I learned to calculate the Cost-per-Click, Cost-per-Visitor, ATV, Conversion Rate, Exposures, Revenue, RPV, MPV, Revenue Ratio, and many other measuring metrics. For the last week, I was able to put together everything I learned in the first three weeks of class into a comprehensive presentation. The presentation was about the internet marketing strategies to carry out four campaigns: broad, targeted, intention-based, and email sponsorship.

I’m currently focusing on the online marketing planning at work. This class covered everything I need to know regarding setting up landing pages, set target audiences, and conducting online marketing campaign test. I’m planning to use the full course materials and research tools to complete my online marketing plan next month, starting with landing pages.

New Media Marketing

In this course, I learned to create a new Influencer Marketing Plan. On week 1 and 2, I researched the personas and established goals for the influencer outreach program. I had to identify who would most likely be a good influencer to drive up brand awareness and increase sale. These influencers have to have a good number of followers on social media, and the credibility among the social media communities. After identifying the influencers, I came up with a plan to establish the relationships between them and the brand. On week 3, I learned to craft a very specific plan on how to carry out the influencer outreach program. Once the plan is establishing I learned to create key metrics to measure the success of the plan. On week 4, I research different systems that I could use to measure these key metrics for social media, email, online contests, and online sale.

Overall, I think I’ve learned a lot in this course. All the reading was very interesting and eye-opening. I learned a new way to indirectly market to my target audience with the Influencer Outreach Program. I learned how to directly measure the results of the many online marketing platforms. I would definitely use some version of the influencer outreach for my clients. For example, one of my clients is a jewelry designer. Beside creating digital ads, which are very costly for a start-up company. I will suggest that she develops an influencer outreach program. With that program, she could reach out to fashion bloggers to promote her products thru posts, pictures, and hashtags.

Web Design and Usability

My objective for this course is to analyze and improve Renpure’ website. The goal is to improve the user experience by updating the website navigation, contents, and SEO. The current website is a good start, but there are much-needed improvements in order to compete with other competitors. By improving the contents and SEO, we could improve the website findability. And, by improving the navigation and layout, we could improve the website usability.

In the first week, I learned to review and analyze the current homepage and the competitor’s websites. Based on the research, I made the suggestions on design improvements for the new homepage. In the second week, we focused on the usability testing. I learned to conduct usage test with 3 different users. By observing how these users navigated and interpreted information on the website, I understand how the information is presented. I could make necessary suggestions on how to improve the website usability. In the third week, I explored the content and the effectiveness of the navigation system. By reviewing the content on every single page of the website, I could make suggestions on to improve the navigation system. In the fourth week, I learned more about contents and SEO. I put together a plan on how to completely revamp the website and to improve the user experience.

I will apply the lessons I learned in this course to improve my clients’ websites. There are tests that I haven’t thought of before, like the usability test. This is very helpful to learn about how effective the website really is with targeting users. I will definitely conduct this test in future whenever I design a new website for the client.

INTERNET CONSUMER BEHAVIOR AND ANALYSIS

My objective for this course was to understand the decision-making process of the online consumers. My goal for this class was to learn to capture the online consumers’ attention, and not only acquire new customers but also to retain the current customers. In order to acquire the new customers, I needed to learn how to marketing to them better. To retain the current customer, I learned to generate great contents to let them engage with the brand.

For the first week of the course, I learned how to analyze and recognize the stages of online-consumer decision making. This included the Funnel Marketing model and identity the marketing opportunity. For the second week, I learned about the consumer segmentation. I learned how each group of customers make decisions and determine that best method to target my marketing effort. The third week, I learned about Consumer Generated Marketing (CGM). I know a lot of companies has done this, but I didn’t know what it was called. It was very useful to learn to how come up with the plan to create any Consumer Generated Marketing campaign. For week four, I learned about conducting surveys. This is a nice wrap up for the class as I learned to go through the 4 stages, one for each week:

· Understanding online-consumers

· Target marketing the online-consumer

· Engaging the online-consumer with the brand

· Gathering feedback to improve the brand & products.

I’m in process of creating couple new online campaign for my company. I intend to use the knowledge I gained from this course to create better contents. I used to just focus mostly on the design of the campaign. However, I could see how important it is to create the best content that fit each customer segment.

Digital Storytelling and Branding

My original objective for this course is to be able to explore and tell the brand story more in-depth. For the first week of the course, I’ve learned to answer very important questions for any brand: who are you, what do you do, and why does it matter? These questions are often over-looked. However, they are very important to understand what your brand really stand for. For the second week, I’ve explored the brand unique voice. I find this very interesting, and it had helped me explore the brand from another angle that I’ve thought of before. The third week, I’ve explored the brand story. Any good brand needs to have a good story to help promote the brand better. A brand story also helps consumers connect with the brand. On the last week, I’ve put together everything I’ve learned in the course in a comprehensive brand strategy. The assignment was very useful. It put everything I’ve learned so far in perspective, and validate why each assignment is so important in developing a good brand.

I’m currently working on re-structure and re-design my company’s website. These lessons will help me explore my company’s brand better. I need to understand what company’s brand stand for so I could develop a website that would fit the company’s needs, and is useful to our customers.

The knowledge I’ve gained in course takes me one step closer to complete my Internet Marketing Plan for Renpure. I’ve explored the brand components, brand message, and conducted an overall market research on target customers and the competitors. By understanding the brand better, I could come up with a more fitting marketing plan to target Renpure’ customer better.

Mastery Reflection - Marketing Fundamentals

My original major was MS in Business Intelligence. After much consideration and attended the first course in the MIP program, I changed my major to MS in Internet Marketing. For the Internet Marketing Fundamentals course, I have learned many valuable skills to apply to my current and future internet marketing. Skills like search-engine optimization, email marketing, social media marketing, content marketing are essential to any digital marketing. Even though I’m already current using these skills, this course offered a much more in-depth and new knowledge.

I knew different methods of creating, tracking, and analyzing marketing campaigns for social media, email, and website. However, after this course, I learned how to analyze all these campaigns from competitors as well. That’s extremely useful to me. I now could apply what I learned to create much more effective digital campaigns. These campaigns will not only target the correct audiences but will also stand out from the competitors.

Key-words and ad-words are something that I had limited knowledge on before this course. Now, I feel like I know the basics of these strategies. I feel a bit more confident talking to vendors about key-words and ad-words. By just knowing the fundamentals, I could see how useful these strategies are, and will definitely spend more time and effort into research more about them. I think this the one new strategy that I could apply immediately with my internet marketing team.
